These podcasts are always inspiring and encouraging, sometimes quite convicting. There's also something about the whole tone - the intro music, Walker's voice - that's comforting, and makes this a go-to podcast when I'm feeling down and not up for an upbeat chatty podcast (actually not really a fan of those most of the time) or a live sermon. I'm not sure the producers were going for a 'cozy fireside read' feel in this podcast, but it kind of has that, and I really like it.

The reader does a superb job of bringing to life the various characters in this lengthy book. Boswell's writing is clear and lively, and gives to each reader who has patience to get through his long work a sense of near acquaintance with this exceptional man. I enjoyed the brief glimpses of other contemporaries like Hannah More and John Wesley, and historic events like the Revolutionary War, all viewed from, as it were, ground level. The inclusion of his letters is a valuable addition, especially as a picture of friendship before the technological age.

One of a kind, delightful warm-hearted characters and thrilling adventures on the sea. Mr. Duck is a gem, and Allison Larkin puts sparkle into the story beyond the average read aloud.
