Story
A Space in the Heart is about the anguish that the death of a child brings and how to survive and thrive in its aftermath. It’s part memoir, part self-help, zero bullshit and 100 percent straight from the heart. It’s about our never-ending love for our lost children and how that love ultimately helps us transform and heal. In other words, it’s a roadmap for a road no one would ever choose to travel.

An education on US history plus characters who make you sit up and listen, and feel.

This is an incredible story with such human characters- all of them. I got an education on the history of slavery- the roots of which we have been trying to grow from all these years. In a way, I understand better why Ferguson and everything else is still happening, and what an "ally" in the movement for equal human rights must be. I am grateful to Coleson Whitehead for this work. It must have been agonizing to research and to write. It's a gift to all of us. Pass it on.

I loved this book! I am from the area where it is set and I felt like I was back there again thanks to Lamb's authentic detail. I love his multi dimensional characters and compassion for each of them. And the performance by several different actors works because each chapter is in a different voice. I loved hearing Lamb read his own writing. Great experience- I feel lonely now that I have finished the book!
