Great Narrator. Decent Book

The Narrator was amazing. The book should probably have been shorter. 6 words where 3 would have been better. Good premise tho. I think the movie might have been better.

Story
"Something is murdering my men." Thus reads the message received from a Nazi commander stationed in a small castle high in the remote Transylvanian Alps. Invisible and silent, the enemy selects one victim per night, leaving the bloodless and mutilated corpses behind to terrify its future victims. When an elite SS extermination squad is dispatched to solve the problem, the men find something that's both powerful and terrifying. Panicked, the Nazis bring in a local expert on folklore - who just happens to be Jewish - to shed some light on the mysterious happenings.

Good Fantasy but not really much Horror.

The horror elements are pretty tame but i enjoyed the world-building. Overall pretty good book, a little cliche and long but otherwise a good book. The performance was excellent. Love the narrator but I see the next book in the cycle has a different one, which may be a bummer. Guess we see.

Absolutely loved it! Simon Vance is amazing as usual.
I listened to this after watching the Fincher movie and I couldn't help but picture Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in my head. Even though I had previous knowledge of the plot I still enjoyed every minute of it.

not as good as the first book but still decent
Reviewed: 03-26-19
Certain parts felt like the author needed to meet a word count quota. I also generally dont like when an author has an otherwise intelligent character do stupid things just to progress the story. Still a decent book though and I will probably buy the next one.
The narrator is really good and makes what may have been an uneven book worth finishing.

I remember this book being so much better than this. Something about how Lumley is trying to explain away the unknowable and mysterious just doesn't sit with me very well. The blasé treatment of a player of the mythos lessens the whole of the story. I liked the book when I was 13, but now 27 years later with more experience it had lost its bite.
Simon Vance was as amazing as ever. When something is boring they describe it as being akin to "watching flies f*ck*. Well I'd enjoy listening to Vance describe the act.

Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.
