Story
In the midst of World War II, James is training for the Royal Air Force, while going home to Yorkshire whenever possible to see his very pregnant wife, Helen. Musing on past adventures through the dales, visiting with old friends, and introducing scores of new and amusing characters—animal and human alike—Herriot enthralls with his uncanny ability to spin a most engaging and heartfelt yarn.

You will enjoy every moment. No one tells a story better than James Herriot did. The person who reads the story Tim ? does a great job. His voice sounds just like James Herriot, at least it seems that way. My tapes from years ago sound almost exact.

In this first volume of his memoirs, then-newly-qualified vet James Herriot arrives in the small Yorkshire village of Darrowby, and he has no idea what to expect. How will he get on with his new boss? The local farmers? And what will the animals think? This program is filled with hilarious and touching tales of the unpredictable Siegfried Farnon, his charming student brother Tristan, and Herriot's first encounters with a beautiful girl named Helen.

I love this book
Reviewed: 01-31-11
This is my third time purchasing it and reading it over the past 30 years. I have the books, the tapes and the DVD and now for my Ipad. I listen to the stories daily. A few minutes or even an hour. I love every minute I spend with these stories. I laugh, I cry and I learn. You won't be sorry for purchasing any of James Herriot's stories.

Story
Herriot continues the rich and rewarding day-to-day life of a small-town veterinarian, and we journey with him across the dales, meeting a whole new cast of unforgettable characters - humans, dogs, horses, lambs, parakeets - all of them drawn with the same infinite fascination, affection and insight that made James Herriot one of the most beloved authors of our time. And all the stories are warmly, evocatively told by the world-renowned "voice" of Dr. Herriot: Christopher Timothy.

Each of James Herriot's books are to be cherished. Such wonderful stories and experiences. I feel like I am the fly on the wall as James lives his life and work his profession. And so descriptive. My husband is now listening to the stories with me.

Story
When you enter the world of James Herriot's Animal Stories, you'll share his wonder and humor, his adventures and misadventures as he contends with pet owners and landowners; rough-spoken farmers and soft-spoken gentry; orphaned lambs, litters of piglets and puppies, cattle and draught horses; and a miscellany of cats and dogs including, of course, Mrs. Pumphrey's inimitable Pekinese, Tricki Woo.
