it's over the top, it challenges your suspension of disbelief at every turn and there's less of a twist and more of a "well yeah. Get genre savy Jackie" but most importantly this book was FUN. I giggled a lot, I enjoyed imagining the scenes and the narrator did an excellent job. A real easy listen and a short one too.
I will say you probably need to be at least a minor fan of the genre (martini-flavored spy fiction) to enjoy it, there are sex scenes but tastefully narrated in vague purple prose, and it IS fairly dated y'all, so be prepared for some casual statements and certain words that don't jive too well these days.

rather than a long history of game making and the popularity certain games achieve this is a detailed account of gaming from the very first pinball machines through to the release of the ps2; highlighting the starts, struggles, successes and failures of the company and people behind some of our favorite games and game design companies.
I greatly enjoyed the performance which made this book easier to get through than if I'd read it.

Story
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

the narrator did an excellent job and the sci-fi elements were great but this is first and foremost a detective novel featuring a great many tired tropes and stereotypes (brooding, smoking, excessively violent detective working for rich people he personally doesnt care for has almost every plot important scrap of info hand fed to him by an attractive woman).
Any negative reviews pointing to cliches, predictable twists, and frustrating main character are at least partially correct.
I would have a difficult time recommending this story to anyone. I thought it was fun but the world-building was my main attraction and I felt the plot needed some extra work. If you do settle down with it be prepared for several unnecessarily graphic and long sex scenes and a story that moves in fits and starts. Get past that and you find a world where dead loved ones can be downloaded into new bodies, the rich and powerful can afford to live forever, hotels run by AI's that crave customers like an addiction, virtual reality interrogations, and as long as you leave the consciousness storing cortical-stack undamaged killing someone is just "organic damage".

Story
The Cthulhu Mythos is one of the 20th century's most singularly recognizable literary creations. Initially created by H. P. Lovecraft and a group of his amorphous contemporaries (the so-called "Lovecraft Circle"), The Cthulhu Mythos story cycle has taken on a convoluted, cyclopean life of its own. Some of the most prodigious writers of the 20th century, and some of the most astounding writers of the 21st century have planted their seeds in this fertile soil. The Book of Cthulhu harvests the weirdest and most corpulent crop of these modern mythos tales.

Fans of Lovecraft will be for the most part pleased. Expect canon typical gore/ violence/sanity bending/sexism and racism. The last two, for those familiar with the original stories, are actually very mild and underplayed.
The performances were Good to Excellent with only one chapter being ultimately unsatisfactory ( it dragged. I skipped it).

HARLIE is the first self-aware intelligence engine. But instead of answers, he has questions—too many questions, and most of his questions have no answers at all. First published in 1972, When HARLIE Was One was immediately hailed as a groundbreaking debut novel, examining the most fundamental question of all: What does it mean to be human?

A beautiful performance by the author himself of one of my favorite books. I can be difficult to follow and I admit that it probably won't appeal to the majority of traditional science fiction fans but if you can get through lengthy discussions on the nature of life, reality and what it means to be sentient you will find a surprisingly touching story of a computer named HARLIE learning how to be alive and a man named Auberson learning to appreciate the unique friendship that computer provides.

Story
A few words from Neil: A few years ago, I blogged about an idea I had for a new Halloween tradition…. I proposed that, on Hallowe'en or during the week of Hallowe'en, we give each other scary books. And so All Hallows’ Read was born. This year, I decided to make the tradition Audible. Literally. We have been telling each other tales of otherness, of life beyond the grave, for a long time; stories that prickle the flesh and make the shadows deeper and, most important, remind us that we live, and that there is something special, something unique and remarkable about the state of being alive. Happy Halloween!

A twisting little tale...
Reviewed: 09-30-15
This short story written and narrated by Neil Gaiman is phenomenal. I personally believe that he has the perfect story-telling voice and it's beautifully joined with an incredible imagination and mastery of the English language. Click-Clack is quite short and well worth the time. as much as I want more I know that any more would have just spoiled it. Scarier than you might expect but still suitable for the whole family (perhaps not very young children with over active imaginations) I highly recommend it.
