Gladwell chooses a topic that is so pressing. He connects our evolution, our habits, our policies, and our assumptiond. His ability to blend the individual and a global gives his work such power. Read with great presence by the author- always a plus - with production enhancements added.

A great way to learn what Roman history means

Rather than taking us through year by year, wars, emperors, and events, Mary Beard shows us trends, significance, turns of tides, and problems of history. She shows us historical evidence in a realistic light. This book is easy to understand. There's not a lot to memorize. There is a lot of richness. This is not your middle school Roman history unit. It is a grown-up's history, with meaning and connection to our life in the 21st century.

This is the 1st time I've heard a nonfiction audiobook read by someone other than the author when I didn't feel that a distracting layer of artifice had been inserted. Phyllida Nash does a great job. It surprised me every time I realized she was not Mary Beard.

Any white person who has romanticized the old South, gotten swept up in Gone with the Wind, or thought Robert E Lee was a great man owes it to themselves to hear the journey of this southern Virginia gentleman, army officer, and historian, who looks at the history we learned, true and false.

This book is so powerful. I love it for the individual stories. They will stay with me. The lens of caste, rather than racism, gets out of arguments about what people feel in their hearts and gets down to the practices and laws that create inequality. I wish everyone would read this book. I will make changes in my life to help dismantle the United States' caste system. It is relentlessly brutal to those at the bottom and cheats all of us.

This book has just the right mix of deep dive insight into the writer, fun stories and life milestoned, and education on Parkinson's disease. I'm so glad Michael read this book to us. I'm not sure how much it was cut, but at the end we were told it was a bridged for audio.
