Story
On June 6, 2015, inmates Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility, New York State's largest maximum security prison. The media was instantly obsessed with the story: aided by a prison seamstress who smuggled hacksaw blades, chisels, and drill bits inside the facility via a vat of raw hamburger meat, the two convicted murderers sliced their way through steel cell walls, meandered through a maze of tunnels, climbed out of a manhole, and walked off into the night.

Should have been a 2 hour podcast
Reviewed: 08-01-23
As glamorous and exciting as a story like this could be, I found myself bored by the mundane nature of most of it. This made me think, this would be an interesting podcast episode that focused on the interesting elements and truncated the rest. Instead, I often found myself hoping for chapters to end to get past irrelevant backstories or to get to the elements of the escape.
All and all, not horrible, but it did not need to be nearly 7 hours.

Story
Kinch Na Shannack owes the Takers Guild a small fortune for his education as a thief, which includes (but is not limited to) lock-picking, knife-fighting, wall-scaling, fall-breaking, lie-weaving, trap-making, plus a few small magics. His debt has driven him to lie in wait by the old forest road, planning to rob the next traveler that crosses his path. But today, Kinch Na Shannack has picked the wrong mark.

My Favorite Audiobook
Reviewed: 01-11-22
The charm of this book is the narrative flair of the protagonist. The plot of the book is fairly standard, but it is elevated by the charm and humor of the way the adventure is presented. Additionally, this narration does an amazing job building the world. This is elevated even further by Christopher Buehlman's performance of the audiobook. His accents, singing, and delivery of his witty dialogue take the book up to a whole different level. The audiobook just oozes fun charm. Also, I loved that while more books are coming, this book wraps up the adventure in a satisfactory way. Think of the first Matrix movie, where you likely wanted more but were also satisfied that you had been told a complete story.

Story
Mo Rocca has always loved obituaries - reading about the remarkable lives of global leaders, Hollywood heavyweights, and innovators who changed the world. But not every notable life has gotten the send-off it deserves. His quest to right that wrong inspired Mobituaries, his number one hit podcast. Now with Mobituaries, the audiobook, he has gone much further, with all new essays on artists, entertainers, sports stars, political pioneers, founding fathers, and more. Even if you know the names, you’ve never understood why they matter...until now.

History In a Smart and Funny Package
Reviewed: 12-08-21
A great combination of knowledge about people you thought you knew and people you have never heard of before. The writing is smart and funny. It also gets into enough depth to surprise you with plenty of things you might not have known about even well-known people like Sanny Davis Jr. Mo Rocca does a great job reading the book.
