Story
Living and slaving in Fill City One, you get used to the smell. We call it the Everpresent Stink. But every once in a while, on a spring day with a breeze, it clears away enough to remind us that there is something more out there. Most Fillers' wildest dreams would be just to get past the walls and live in the mainland. But my dream? It’s a little bigger. I’m going to Mars.

Different than the prior books, but enjoyable.
Reviewed: 02-02-19
Different than Dirks prior books, but as usual, a good story. it started off slowly, but made up for it in the end. It's not great literature, parts are goofy, much is predictable, but it's still a fun story. I would recommend his other books over this, but if you've read them all, get this. Be patient and you will, I hope, be happy you listened.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

This is a wonderful multidimensional story with winning characters and interesting plot twists. The one irritation I have is with occasional plot twists where the protagonists act out of character. But the overall story and characters keep pulling me back in. And the narrator is wonderful!

Story
As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption - even murder and genocide - generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie. In Lying, bestselling author and neuroscientist Sam Harris argues that we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie.

a great series: best of narrators.
Reviewed: 08-17-18
This is an entertaining story with compelling characters that would rate a solid five stars if not rushed in places causing unfortunate gaps and minor logical inconsistencies. Still well worth listening to, along with the first and second in the series. The narrator is among the best, if not the best, on audible and really brings the story to life. Highly recommended.

From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

I recommend that everyone read "The Warmth of Other Suns" a history of the America's Great Migration on southern blacks to norther and western states to escape Jim Crow, the Klan, and share cropping. It is important now more than ever. It is clear that we again slide backwards. The stories in this book should instill shame in every American white, and fear and pride in every American of African heritage. many of the tales are sad and horrifying as those of the Holocaust or any genocide, yet critically important to hear and remember. Others are heartwarming and speak to the resilience of human spirit. Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

I don't know what the humans are so cranky about. Their enclosures are large, they ingest over 1,000 calories per day, and they're allowed to mate. Plus, they have me: an Autonomous Servile Unit, housed in a mobile/bipedal chassis. I do my job well: keep the humans healthy and happy.

I stumbled upon Rob Dirk's when Audible suggested his book Where the Hell is Tesla. That was so funny, I had to get this book as soon as I knew he had written another. It wasn't disappointing, as are so many second books. In fact it is a great story. It is funny, exciting and heartwarming. It is a story of what it means to be human, and what it means to be a father. It is lighthearted and easy to read or listen to - Dirks is a great narator - and the book is just fun. I can't wait for the next Rob Dirks story.
Hope it isn't too long a wait.

Story
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Where does Born a Crime rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Pretty high up. It is certainly more entertaining than my usual fare of history and technology.
Have you listened to any of Trevor Noah’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I didn't know he had any.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book constantly made me laugh. It also made me realize how disturbing individual and group human behavior can be.
Any additional comments?
This is a wonderful book. It is a remarkable and funny story of survival in the midst of misery, in this case induced by apartheid. It has wonderful life lessons that we can all apply. I highly recommend it. I liked this book so much that I sat in my car until chapters end, even if I was at my destination.
