Story
Renowned author Yoel Blum reluctantly agrees to visit his birthplace of Amsterdam to promote his books, despite promising his late mother that he would never return to that city. While touring the Jewish Historical Museum with his wife, Yoel stumbles upon footage portraying prewar Dutch Jewry and is astonished to see the youthful face of his beloved mother staring back at him, posing with his father, his older sister…and an infant he doesn’t recognize.

Interesting with Holocaust info

Fair. Interesting but too repetitive and ordinary.
Not a great listen but fine for newbies on Dutch behavior during WWII

Story
Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with.

Not up to what you’d expect from this great writer. Story simple and unexceptional. Nothing like other books by Bohjalian

Awful

As a fan of Oates I am sorely disappointed and miserable having read this book. It is boring, repetitive and a ridiculous story wth shallow characters. But Oates has been writing strange books lately.
