Story
After losing their parents when they were just babies, private investigators Fran and Ken Stein now specialize in helping adoptees find their birth parents. So when a client asks them for help finding her father, with her only clue a rare ukulele, the case is a little weird, sure, but it's nothing they can't handle. But soon Fran and her brother are plunged into a world where nothing makes sense—and not just the fact that a very short (but very cute) NYPD detective keeps trying to take eternal singleton Fran out on dates.

Good Story, Narration needs improvement

Story is great. I love E.J Copperman's writing. The narrator was not great. Most of the story was read in the form of a question? That's not great?

Story
An explosive news story shatters Singapore’s famous tranquility—and sends a chill down the spine of every domestic worker. Flordeliza Martinez, a Filipina maid, has been arrested for murdering her female employer. The three women don’t know the accused well, but she could be any of them; every worker knows stories of women who were scapegoated or even executed for crimes they didn’t commit. Shocked into action, Donita, Corazon, and Angel will use their considerable moxie and insight to piece together the mystery of what really happened.

Good Story, Cringy Narration
Reviewed: 05-12-23
I'm going to finish this book because it's a good story on overseas Filipino workers which resonates with my family's immigrant experiences. I just really wish the audio producers put more thought in choosing the narrator for the book. This story would have been told more authentically if you had someone of Filipino heritage telling the story. The pronunciations of the tagalog words are off and there's quite a few. And it's not the narrator, she's wonderful and I'm sure she would be great narrating other stories that didn't require so many accents.

Story
When Lila Macapagal moves back home to recover from a horrible breakup, her life seems to be following all the typical rom-com tropes. She's tasked with saving her Tita Rosie's failing restaurant, and she has to deal with a group of matchmaking aunties who shower her with love and judgment. But when a notoriously nasty food critic (who happens to be her ex-boyfriend) drops dead moments after a confrontation with Lila, her life quickly swerves from a Nora Ephron romp to an Agatha Christie case.

WARNING: Don't read this HUNGRY. The way Manansala describes Filipino dishes are mouth watering. It's about time we had some diversity in this genre! The narrator needed improvement in pronouncing certain things but other than that great listen. Can't wait for a sequel!
