Story
With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

In a nutshell, this is another zombie story set in the Middle Ages. I found the different types of magic interesting. I liked this trilogy.

Story
FitzChivalry - royal bastard and former king’s assassin - has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire. Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past...and his future.

I have enjoyed all books by Robin Hobb that I’ve listened to on audible. My biggest gripe with this trilogy is Nettle. She was born illegitimate and when was finally reunited with her father (and learned she had a dream relationship with for years), she snubs him and acts superior. She constantly threatens to take Bee away from him. He was an ASSASSIN. Why is he tolerating her badgering and insults? Is Nettle the children protective services of the age? He raised Hap without an estate full of servants. I found it quite upsetting that Nettle felt she had any business criticizing how Bee was raised and how our main character gave Nettle’s opinion a second thought. He was tougher than that.

This book is good for anyone interested in science fantasy with a bit of magic. I read through all 3 trilogies quickly and am going through them a second time. There are parts that drag on and get a little boring in all of the books. The author uses the words ‘incredulously’ and ‘shrugged’ so often I’d like to give her a thesaurus.
