Story
Azetla has served the Maurowan Army for thirteen years. There are seven left to pay. A pariah and a debt soldier, he is a commander with no rank, a soldier without citizenship, and wears a sword that it is unlawful for him to either own or use. He has learned to hold his tongue or risk losing everything. When Azetla’s battalion is sent into the desert to catch a Sahr devil—one of the famously brutal inhabitants of the region—his tenuous position is threatened. He discovers that there is far more to this mission than catching a fiend.

Intriguing story
Reviewed: 03-22-25
This is a slow-paced fantasy story that takes a while to get going, but is worth it to stick it out and see all the pieces fall into place. I thought the narration was fine—not my favorite.

Larry McMurtry's American epic, set in the late 19th century, tells the story of a cattle drive from Texas to Montana, a drive that represents not only a daring foolhardy adventure, but a part of the American Dream for everyone involved.

Excellent book, strange audiobook
Reviewed: 02-29-24
Regarding the audio only: the narrative performance by Lee Horsley was excellent, however the audio quality varied wildly 😵💫 also, the narrator never announces a new chapter, so it’s just a nonstop oration with no discernible breaks which was not fun to navigate. It’s divided into 45 min “Chapters” which have no relevance whatsoever to the actual marked chapters in the physical book. No idea why this choice was made but it was frustrating.

Story
Anime-obsessed Anne might be a fictophiliac, or she might just hate touch so much, she’ll never have sex. She doesn’t really care about the difference, as long as she has her favorite pillow to grind against when she needs physical relief. Anne’s favorite pillow is more than just a feather-filled cotton sack—he’s alive but no one knows it. Hot, pulsing magic weaves between his fibers each time she touches him. All he wants is to be the man Anne needs.
