A shining star in a sea of romantasy

My favourite of all of Sarah J Maas’s series, I have listened to this novel twice now and every time it never fails to disappoint. Brilliant story writing and world building with thoughtful prose.

Story
Violet Savoie has a plan; a dream, rather: to open her own tattoo shop, which caters to supernaturals in need of permanent charms. As a powerful Seer, she has the potent magic to cast every kind of spell...except the kind to give werewolves control over their beastly side. And her business partner Nico needs help in the worst kind of way.

Don’t snooze on the Savoire Sisters!
Reviewed: 06-22-22
I love everything about this series, from the Savoire Sisters to the supernatural world building, the witty banter, and the wonderful mix of hot, powerful men in their lives. I started reading these for a palette cleanser between my much darker romance books and now I’m eagerly awaiting each sister’s book. Definitely a fave with superb narration too.

Story
When Cora attends her sister’s birthday party, she expects at most a hangover or a walk of shame. She doesn’t anticipate a stolen wallet, leaving her stranded and dependent on Dean - her arch nemesis and ultimate thorn in her side. And she really doesn’t anticipate waking up in shackles in a madman’s basement. To make matters worse, Dean shares the space in his own set of chains. After 15 years of teasing, insults, and practical jokes, the ultimate joke seems to be on them.

Loved the premise, not sure about the delivery.
Reviewed: 03-27-22
The female narrator on this one was a huge disappointment. She sounded like she was going to cry or puke the entire time, even before the kidnapping. This story could have been great. I really loved the premise but the “telling” rather than “showing” throughout the entire book (especially in the basement scenes) let it down. Great premise but the delivery, from the writing to the narration, was just a little off for me and left the work feeling pretty green. This book gets a lot of hype, and again, the premise was great, but the author failed to tap into the emotional side for me and I just couldn’t connect with the characters. I wanted to love it. I really did. I mean, enemies to lovers combined with forced proximity and kidnapping, that’s my candy, but sadly the whole experience just fell flat.
Spoilers ahead:
There was also clearly no research done on the confiscation of dogs who’ve been fed human remains, they would have been euthanised, not adopted out, and the main character is raped daily but doesn’t mention the physical ramifications of this until after her escape. Seriously, eighteen days of rape and you never once think, “I’m in a lot of pain” or “I’m going to get pregnant”?
I don’t regret reading this one, but I really do wish a more seasoned author had written this book. Between the angst, the inconsistencies, and the lazy writing it was just a little “meh”.

Story
A writer who's blocked - I'm a total cliche. Lucky for me, my agent has a cure that's an even bigger stereotype - a month at her villa in Tuscany, with nothing to do but find my muse. When he walks right in the front door, adorable son in tow, it feels like fate has finally done for me what it does for every other cliched girl I've seen in the movies. Except that he's completely off-limits. In this case, business and pleasure can never mix. Because Claudio is my agent's ex.

Beautiful story, truly awful narration.
Reviewed: 04-29-21
Karina’s prose and her ability to suck you into her world were on point, as always, but the narration killed this book for me. Both narrators were so awful that I had a hard time finishing this book. The male did a better Scottish accent than the female character, but his Italian accent wound up sounding a lot like Transylvanian. I kept picturing Dracula every time he spoke. I read exclusively on audio, but if you can pick this up in ecopy or paperback you should definitely do yourself a favor and give it a go. 5 stars for story, but the terrible accents mean I’ll be giving any books with those two narrators a big skip.

Story
Meet Shane Baxter. Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn't just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he was the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn't care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there's a new player in the game, and she's much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.

Loved this story by Jay Crownover! Escapism at its best, and yet it all felt completely real! Can't wait to visit The Point again!
The narration was possibly the best I've ever heard, and I listen to a lot of audio! Congratulations to Jay for a stellar read, and to Leyland for bring this book to life!
