Story
When Twenty Years After opens it is 1648: the Red Sphinx, Cardinal Richelieu, is dead, France is ruled by a regency in the grip of civil war, and across the English Channel the monarchy of King Charles I hangs by a thread. As d’Artagnan will find, these are problems that can’t be solved with a sword thrust. In Twenty Years After, the musketeers confront maturity and face its greatest challenge: sometimes, you fail. It’s in how the four comrades respond to failure, and rise above it, that we begin to see the true characters of Dumas’s great heroes.

Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Read this because I heard it recommended by someone I trust their opinion. And I have to say this is probably one the best books I’ve ever heard or read. It’s straight to the point and every chapter is full of meaning and truth. So good.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story is decent but tiresome
Reviewed: 07-23-24
Could have been a great read but the pacing is exhaustingly slow, The story could be told in 4hrs. At some point I lost interest and just wanted it to end, not because of the story but because entire chapters are filled with unnecessary and boring dialogue.

Great performance by the narrator. Story was good and insightfully philosophical however the pacing was slow, the climax mild. But not a regrettable experience.

To call the narration top notch is an understatement. The story is fabulous and balanced . Extremely well written but the narrator made it the experience it was. This sets the highest precedent for audio books and I had to for the first time search for more books by narrator than by author. I want more!!

I don't want to give too much away, but I was hesitant to continue after listening to the first four books. It wasn't that they weren't good; I just feared the story might lose its momentum. Instead, it only built up more excitement for the next one. Things are getting really interesting. Highly recommend!
