An interesting story butt not enough to satisfy a die hard Star Trek fan

I am a long time fan of the Star Trek Voyager series and enjoyed getting to know the character Seven of Nine.

Where I do understand this is set in the future, I felt more than a bit lost with out at least some of the characteristics I had come to know and expect from Seven. Not having any clue, other than the vague reference that it was 18 years since she had been severed from the Collective and a quick reference that she and the other Borg got “friendly” with each other when they were regenerating and not connected by the Queen, I felt Lost was the least I felt- bewildered would be a more accurate descriptor. To see her not quite having a lesbian romance, didn’t fit with what we learned about her while on Voyager.

This is not to say that taking a beloved character and placing her into a totally different reality can not be interesting, it is to say that there was not enough done to help the reader/listener understand where and why she is where she is at the time of the story. There isn’t enough meat on the bone to have the storyline feel plausible

Even the connection the Professor has with the memories of his Wife fail to really embody the true passion and devotion he still has for her.

Some of the trouble lies in the story line itself and in the choices the performers make in their characters. It is understood that this is more of a “readers theater” style recording, all of the extra tidbits of sound effects, music and other incidental music coupled With the minimalist “stage direction”/conventional style are supposed to help place the action, but at times, it doesn’t add something more to the presentation, just not enough to place the reader in the ship or on the planet. with Seven- we are held outside of the action.

The book is marginally creative and interesting, but leaves the listener forever wanting more.

To this listener, this book sounded like it belonged in that other cannon driven space “opera” who’s name also starts with “Star”.

I won’t say it’s wasn’t worth the money, but I am not sure if the low price was due to the length or the strength of the story.

Melissa does a great job telling her story, yet whoever recorded the musical bridges inbetween sections should be ashamed! These bridge interludes sound like they were recorded under water!!

Please fix this!

Where the information provided within this book seems to be well Documented and carefully crafted, the reading of it makes it sound deplorable! What I mean by this is the reader sounded haughty, and self righteous.

As a book that is presumably, a research work, and not a self opinion material, this type of reading should not be utilized!

I am unsure why this particular reader was chosen, would highly consider re-recording this with a different narrator!

Material: five out of five
Reading: three out of five.

I would recommend this book for anyone looking for information on how search groups are formed, and how they work together or not. I would recommend if you can finding an alternate reader though.

Personally, shame on audible !

This book, at times, sounds like a rehash of the Kris Longknife series.but upon further listening, it is clear that this book is very different. It has some of the most gruesome depictions of torture i have encountered in any si-fi/fiction. Mike Shepherd might have his reasonings for writing such things: and certainly it demonstrates the sheer torture that the enslaved women go through and might seriously want, my question is- why??!

Hold on to your lunch with this one!
