Story
Around the world, populist movements are gaining traction among the white working class. Meanwhile, members of the professional elite - journalists, managers, and establishment politicians - are on the outside looking in, left to argue over the reasons. Williams explains that many people have conflated "working class" with "poor" - but the working class is, in fact, the elusive, purportedly disappearing middle class. They often resent the poor and the professionals alike. But they don't resent the truly rich.

Started off good, but her elitism still makes her clueless no matter how much she tries.
Reviewed: 01-21-20
She started the book off well but still reverted to the typical Trump hating elitism that I clueless about issues such as “Trump being racist” or “against immigrants”. She doesn’t even admit the fact that there is a difference between “illegal” and “legal”.

Story
Even compared to his fellow founders, George Washington stands tall. Our first president has long been considered a stoic hero, holding himself above the rough-and-tumble politics of his day. Now John Ferling peers behind that image, carefully burnished by Washington himself, to show us a leader who was not only not above politics but a canny infighter---a master of persuasion, manipulation, and deniability.

Good, not great. Speculative.
Reviewed: 06-12-19
This book should not stand alone. One must read many other biographies of Washington before reading. There are many speculative assertions that the author makes that he wants you to take as truths. The facts are foggy where those assertions come from. It was a good premise for a book but the author is clearly anti-Washington or has an extremely negative view on human nature. He seems to be one of those “true Whigs” of the Revolution-Mifflin, Lovell, Sam Adams, etc.

Story
In White Trash, Nancy Isenberg upends assumptions about America's supposedly class-free society. Poor whites were central to the rise of the Republican Party in the early 19th century, and the Civil War itself was fought over class issues nearly as much as it was fought over slavery. Reconstruction pitted poor white trash against newly freed slaves, which factored in the rise of eugenics. These poor were at the heart of New Deal reforms and LBJ's Great Society; they haunt us in reality TV shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty.

Better if it came from “One of us” instead of a liberal Yankee
Reviewed: 12-24-17
The books seems to have a bunch of liberal propaganda. Some points are correct but told in a snobby tone that you get when you hear of how Southern whites “should be” or “should think.” Elitists will never explain my history.
