Story
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Blown away with how much of himself he shared

Born A Crime is a really good book. He is a public personality I believe I misunderstood. In this book he allows you to walk in his shoes and I feel enriched from his insight.
His narration provides nuance that is impossible to get from the book alone.
This title is an easy listen; if you're used to watching the Daily Show or his stand up, you're aware it is possible to multitask and listen to him speak.
If you enjoy reading about life in different time periods, perfect, then this one refers to the recent post-apartheid era.
the 9hrs listening was well spent. thanks Trevor!

Story
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Narrator delivers. he adds the third dimension to a straightforward but compelling story about life and chasing your goals, sacrifice and survival.
This short story leads me to believe that it is a sample of what Hemingway can deliver and i look forward to reading his longer works of literature.

within the text's 100 or so pages, Steinbeck leads you through a simple yet deep storyline with many important themes that reflect the everyday condition. Resentment, victimhood, letting go, justice, insecurity, friendship and sacrifice among many others.
you don't feel like you are going through a personal journey with these characters. I couldn't appreciate this book when i read it 20 yrs ago in high school as i do today. give this book a revisit but through the audio version.
definitely worth the 1 credit. you'll breeze through this title.

mixed feelings but i'd recommend this

the book;
is great. it is a must read. it is a book that tells a love story that anyone understands but cannot articulate.
It is peppered with philosophy, politics among other things. and it describes life during a time when marriages were arranged in 1% society.
Tolstoy's reputation precedes him and i think it is because he has seemingly unrestricted access to humanity. He builds strong compelling characters to play out the story and deliver deep philosophical insight on the human condition.
i needed this book ten years ago. in college.
the narrator;
the book is so solidly written that i cant imagine a novice narrator harming the essence with a mediocre performace.
I wasn't thrilled at the narrator's voice. everything the characters said sounded superfluously sensual in its delivery. if that was Anna's voice fine but there wasn't much nuance in the portrayal of the characters.

Story
A century after it first appeared, Crime and Punishment remains one of the most gripping psychological thrillers. A poverty-stricken young man, seeing his family making sacrifices for him, is faced with an opportunity to solve his financial problems with one simple but horrifying act: the murder of a pawnbroker. She is, he feels, just a parasite on society. But does the end justify the means? Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov makes his decision and then has to live with it.

My reading experience

It takes a while to get absorbed into the story. The reputation of crime and punishment provoke high expectation but allow Dostoyevsky to paint the scenes and soon you will be hooked.
Every conversation isn’t riveting but the ones that aren’t set up appropriately the potency of the philosophical topics they touch and in a context that makes quotidian themes in 2018 just like in the mid 1800s.
Stick it out. This narrator is good.
Can wait to read more Dostoyevsky.
