I am happy with the product. It is the lack of predictable arrival that is disturbing. This is the last issue to arrive in five days. Just when I begin to trust there will a regular delivery, another set of days go by with nothing. You never were this way before all the changes.

this was beautiful. I'm terribly sad now. it's honest and raw and funny and devastating and pure and tragic and just... human. but it's left me so terribly sad, that's the truth. it might do that to you too.

I love Adam Johnson's work. these stories are so rich in emotion and insight. the final, titular tale may be the best, especially in this audio version, as the reader's accent and cadence really bring the story into vivid color. I think the narrators were quite well cast. I definitely recommend/well worth the credit!

i love suspense-heavy mystery/thrillers like the girl on the train and sharp objects, but this book does not measure up. it wasn't worth the credit, tbh. first, I will admit the narrator has a nice voice. she is English and does both American and Irish accents well, imo. but she reads *unbearably* slowly. I hate to speed up audiobooks because it throws off the rythym and sounds robotic, but i had to listen to this at 1.25 pace just for the speed to come across semi-normal. now the story itself: the characters were dull and flat, none that interesting or even realistic. the plot was somehow both predictable and disappointing. uninspired, I'd call it. all in all, this wasn't the absolute worst, as far as audio-novels go, but it's not worth the price (or the credit) imo.

beautifully written and brilliantly narrated, I found this book to be practically impossible to stop listening to. as the plot twisted, foreshadowing I didn't realize was being laid all the while became clear. I don't want to give anything away—i just want to urge you to try this book out. it's addictively good.

This is another masterpiece from Madeline Miller. I adore her writing. her stories are so moving and engaging. if you like love stories or stories of the search for meaning amidst the seeming meaninglessness of individual life or stories about the kind of harm men have been inflicting in Western society throughout its patriarchal history as well as those who dare subvert patriarchy's oppressive rule, u should check this one out. this one has all that and then some. really a beautiful story.

I adored this book! the voice actor reading is perfect as Circe. the author takes what is familiar to us from myth and presents it as raw and candid, first-hand memory. beautifully written, the book reads as confessional journal of a quietly eloquent and unblinkingly honest Circe, a minor nymph (by now largely lost to the sands of time) as she describes her life as an outcast in the days of Greek heroes and monsters.p

the characters are sometimes voiced by a cast, sometimes by the narrator, which can be more than a little confusing. some major characters even share the same actor's voice, so that can trip up as well. if they'd just stick to one narrator or a full and reliably voiced cast, the story would've been much easier to follow... not that it's impossible, but is tricky. the production quality is v good and the story, while at times reading bit dated as can happen w classic science fiction/fantasy, is compelling and colorful. The most obvious outdated aspect of the story is the hint of the author's misogyny underpinning the action, e.g. he painted villains as effeminate, he alluded to necessarily predatory gay sex, and he painted gender roles as biologically imperative.

The full-cast narration in this series is usually great, and for the most part, this book is no different. extremely distracting in this recording, however: a very poorly chosen replacement actress speaking for the character Eva mars the storyline. whereas in book 2, Eva sounded like she was raised speaking Spanish (a contextually consistent choice, she being from Puerto Rico), in book 3 she suddenly and inexplicably has a strangely strong northeastern US accent—and even worse, an obnoxious speech impediment. Eva has a much larger role in this book, to boot, meaning there's no shortage of frustration. i do love this series, and this book is well-written, engrossing like the others. But it's surprisingly difficult to listen to this totally miscasted R-less actress throughout. luckily, the rest of the cast hold up and the continued story remains witty, intriguing and darkly fascinating (despite sometimes feeling depressingly realistic/relevant). i do hope the audio version is re-produced ASAP because i enjoy re-listening to the previous books and wish i could say the same about Only Human.

I read H.D.M. series as a child and am still in love w/Pullman's work. I have been so excited for this to finally come out. Just finished and am not disappointed. Fantastic story, great writing, great performance! I'm so happy to get to experience more of Lyra's universe, and am already hungrily looking forward to the next book.
