This audio book is an interesting listen. It kept my attention, and indicated, sometimes very graphically, how rough and deadly life could be serving in a company of Rangers in WWII. From their training, their individual quirks and personalities, to their heroism, all is represented in this work. There is lots of action with specific accounts. It is drawn from input from Rangers themselves, and includes descriptions many of the after-war lives.

I enjoyed the details Catton provided to the long tension leading up to the Civil War. His account seems factual rather than emotional. It sure seems as though war was decided on by the South, with thus extra insight. It does not reduce the pain or loss by either side, but it does lay a serious indictment on the South's factions leading up to the election and to war. This is not Catton's intent, but facts do help enlighten the bent of th slave-holding deep Southern states to protect slavery at the cost of peace.

I was pleasantly surprised by this work. The title indicates very well the woven biographies of a deluded assassin, a lesser known president whom a divided country embraced, and the limits of technology and science of those times. It gives insight into the lives of many, including James Garfield, Chester Arthur, and even a great deal regarding Alexander Graham Bell, as well as a host of others. The author does an excellent job weaving the various inter-related stories together in a good flow, and the performer immerses you into the story.

Mohler addresses the critical changes within American culture regarding sexuality, gender, marriage, conception, and examines them in light of Scripture and history. This book is most necessary in our time.

My sons and I listened to this work on a short road trip. It gives Paulsen's real-life experiences behind his Hatchet series. The work is extremely interesting, and occasionally even funny. I would recommend this work after reading "The Hatchet" and "Brian's Winter."

This was a personal account based on letters the author wrote or received. The work presents a unique perspective of one person's view as opposed to an overall general approach. I found that it brought small details to light, from battle deaths to frustrations experienced. It is even more interesting, having relatives who fought with Wisconsin units.

Slightly Confusing Start, But Great Book

I was a bit confused at the start of the book. I think the Foreward gave snippets of the two accounts in the book. Without background, that left me a bit confused as to what I was getting into. The book gives two accounts, interweaving them every other chapter. It took me a bit to get used to, but I enjoyed that tactic once I was able to keep the two stories straight. This was a wonderful listen, and worth every minute of my time. If you've ever been to the Boundary Waters or the Quetico, it is even more interesting (but certainly not required to fully enjoy the book). Great accounts of loss and rescue.

I enjoyed this compilation of firsthand accounts. These accounts bring details and perspectives not easily captured by other works which seek to summarize. The reader is excellent, and brought just enough vocal variation to the works to make them even more interesting.

What a difficult account to write. I appreciate both the author and the narrator. I encourage everyone to listen to this account from a child's point of view, a survivor of the holocaust and one of the few surviving children of one of Poland's Jewish ghettos. Precious history.
