You wake up and feel a tickle in your throat. Your head hurts. You’re mildly annoyed as you get the kids ready for school and dress for work yourself. Meanwhile, an epic war is being fought, just below your skin. Millions are fighting and dying for you to be able to complain as you head out the door. So what, exactly, is your immune system? In Immune, Philipp Dettmer, the brains behind the most popular science channel on YouTube, takes listeners on a journey through the fortress of the human body and its defenses.

Amazingly easy to understand
Reviewed: 05-24-22
This book offers an easy to understand insight into how our immune system works. It is humorous and playful in its descriptions and frequently repeats complex descriptions to maximize understanding. If you've ever been curious how all that stuff works I'd start here!

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Andy brings his trademark style to yet another great story! I cannot recommend enough that this story be listened to instead of read, it simply brings a wonderful dimension to it. The story itself is skillfully woven between past and present as Weir introduces is to the school teacher who turns out to be humanities last hope. Throughout the story we encounter the signature skill with which Andy communicates scientific and engineering knowledge that drive the story forward.

Story
Thousands of years ago, Earth’s terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity’s great empire fell, and the program’s decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it’s been waiting for them.

Another Amazing Science Fiction story from Adrian!
Reviewed: 09-12-21
This was simply a fantastic book! The story is extremely well told and takes you on an adventure through time and space, exactly like Children of Time, but now our protagonists are the Humans together with the Spiders and Dr. Kern.
They voyage to another system, also visited by Earth, and engage with the inhabitants, who are as different from them as the Spiders are from the Humans. The system is also in chaos due to a terrible threat!
Adrian expertly weaves our perspective through the multi-faceted story that unfolds. A brilliant story and definitely a must-read for sci-fi fans!

Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

The performer does an excellent job of telling this short story about a robot who is part of a survey mission. The story is told from the perspective of the security robot and how it performs is functions and takes care of it's humans.
