Story
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Lives up to the hype

Where does Gone Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is the best book I've read or listened to in the last year. I was a little hesitant since the reviews were so good for this book, both on audible and around the water cooler. The beginning feels like every husband-killed-his-wife story but them *BAM* the story changes in a dynamic and unpredictable way and you're hooked until the end. I've recommended this book to a dozen people since finishing and I wish one of them would hurry up and finish so we could talk about it!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I LOVE Amy's character. She's calculating and crafty and each time her narration began a surprise or clue was unfolded.
Which scene was your favorite?
I don't want to give this one away, but it was a jaw-dropping game changer. If you've read the book, you know that moment. If you haven't, listen to the audio and you'll know this moment too. ;)
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, the beginning felt like a tired story I've heard before. But if you get through the first bit, you can't stop listening. Suddenly, you have no idea what is happening or going to happen next.

Story
We know you are here, our brothers and sisters...Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet behind the rubble of an old barbershop where she lives with her grandfather, she thinks about what is lost - how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers...to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies. And now, at an age when everyone is required to turn themselves over to the militia, Pressia can no longer pretend to be small.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, the dystopian storyline was good and I was surprised by the number of different characters. I found myself listen far longer than I expected each time I started.
What did you like best about this story?
The storyline was full of twists and turns I didn't expect that kept the story intriguing.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
There are several different narrators, which I enjoy when there are mulitple characters. It added a depth to the narration I enjoyed.
