A lot of people seem to have issues with the protagonists, I love them. You probably will too.
I downloaded Rise of Empire halfway through Theft of Swords....and as soon as I submit this, I will hit play on The Heir

Growing up in small-town Ohio isn't easy, particularly when you're a closeted gay kid surrounded by...no one openly gay. Luckily, Danny Pellegrino grew up in the '90s, coming of age when the internet opened up a whole new world for a curious kid itching for life outside of Midwest suburbia.

Performance...great, story...meh melodrama

I chose this book simply because I really like the narrator, Mary Jane Wells....I didn't know much about the book or author previously.
I really, really wanted to like it....but,
I got especially tired of the "men are horrible, women are mistreated" tone of the ENTIRE story line. The lead characters had all the ingredients to be rather interesting; but they never fully reach their potential, and were ultimately simple Romance caricatures. The conclusion of the story feels very rushed, with a melodramatic/penny dreadful feeling type of climactic scene, hastily contrived to "wrap things up"

The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.

Story
Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashbury's to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London ne'er-do-wells by night. Now there's a new item on the list. He needs an heir - which means he needs a wife. When Emma Gladstone, a vicar's daughter turned seamstress, appears in his library wearing a wedding gown, he decides on the spot that she'll do.

Cleverly written and delightfully read

A delightful bit of storytelling with a talented reader. This is basically Guardians Of The Galaxy for the historical romance world....a fun romp of a story with a delightful sense if humor. There's nothing too deep or complicated about the plot, but, at the heart of the story are two, acceptablely fleshed out and enjoyable characters. There are some really very fun moments, which are made even better because of the way they are performed. Brava!
