Story
Is real friendship too risky? We live in a world where real friendship is hard to find. Suspicious of others and insecure about ourselves, we retreat into the safety of our small, self-made digital worlds. Tragically, even the church can become a place that reinforces this isolation. Jesus models a much richer vision of friendship. Scott Sauls, pastor and teacher, invites you to see the breadth of Christ's love in this audiobook, Befriend.

A Must Read for Followers of Christ
Reviewed: 06-27-24
Check your made up mind and heart of stone at the title page. This books reminds readers of the responsibility followers of Christ have to love and serve others. Befriending others puts you in the practice of Jesus. Sauls deals with some challenging topics but does so with love, grace, and truth. Read this book, engage its content, and do as Jesus did, befriend.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
In this compelling work, authors Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola reclaim the entire Bible as a gripping narrative about Jesus Christ. Virtually every other “Jesus biography” begins with the nativity account in Bethlehem. In this groundbreaking book, Sweet and Viola begin before time, in the Triune God, and tell the complete interconnected story of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation.

A Must Read, period.

Whether you are a new follower of Christ or a long-suffering theologian, this is a must read. I found the pages filled with thoughts I’ve had myself from my own reading confirmed and solidified as well as new ideas introduced and welcomed due to the scholarly work the authors put in. This is a well of insight and knowledge and one would do well to drink deep and long. Enjoy.

Story
When Apollo 11 touched down on the Moon’s surface in 1969, the first man on the Moon became a legend. In First Man, author James R. Hansen explores the life of Neil Armstrong. Based on over 50 hours of interviews with the intensely private Armstrong, who also gave Hansen exclusive access to private documents and family sources, this "magnificent panorama of the second half of the American twentieth century" (Publishers Weekly, starred review) is an unparalleled biography of an American icon.

I was interested in reading this book about Neil Armstrong more because of having the pleasure of meeting him and was curious about hearing more of his story. Would my interactions with him (albeit limited) match up with what I would read about him here.
What Hansen shares here I have to say matches what I encountered personally. Mr. Armstrong is very unassuming and kind. One of the most “down to earth” people I’ve ever met actually. Pardon the pun.
As some reviewers alluded to there is a lot of technical jargon but I feel for the most part was warranted. Neil was an engineer and from what I gleaned from the story itself those aspects would have been important to him. The personal details and stories helped me gain a new perspective on Neil Armstrong. There is a lot of truth to what I recall reading at one point in the book, the 3 men of Apollo 11 will forever be outsiders of sorts due to their experience, but certainly not in a bad way.
I recommend this book if you looking for a story about a humble man and his attempt to be a human being. And if you like space and aerospace engineering this might be an enjoyable read for you. Thanks James Hansen for the reminder to look for awe and wonder, to dream and just be available, for you never know what adventure awaits you.
