Story
Indian American journalist Smita has returned to India to cover a story, but reluctantly: long ago she and her family left the country with no intention of ever coming back. As she follows the case of Meena—a Hindu woman attacked by members of her own village and her own family for marrying a Muslim man—Smita comes face to face with a society where tradition carries more weight than one’s own heart, and a story that threatens to unearth the painful secrets of Smita’s own past.

The story, the performance and every minute listening to this phenomenal story were amazing! I haven't heard or listened to a story this compelling and emotionally thrilling. Umrigar has written a beautiful narrative and characters so descriptive that you will fall in love with them. I hope there's a sequel... although I don't think it can be topped. one of the best stories I think I've ever read. A MUST Read/Listen!

Story
When Indian American journalist Smita returns to India to write the story of a young widow Meena and the murder of her husband, it’s Smita’s first time back since her family left when she was a child. Both Smita and Meena were raised in a culture where a woman exercising a basic human right - the right to love and marry whoever she chooses - is met with brutal punishment. While Meena’s fate hangs in the balance, Smita must reckon with the privilege that becoming an American has given her, as well as face the trauma that shaped her as a child and led to her family leaving.

Story
Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then...he hears the plot.

Very slow to begin and didn't care for the narration. the tone was very monotonous. Story eventually got better but it was predictable.

There is no love lost between the president of the United States and Ellen Adams, his new secretary of state. But it’s a canny move on the part of the president. An Amazing Story of Beauty and Grace!!!

A true narrative of what defines a strong woman in post colonial India. the characters, story and settings practically transform you to the palace-filled worlds of Jaipur in the 50s. Laxmi is the definition of what a strong woman even today can be depicted as. So breathtakingly beautiful, this story left me with a desire for the book to never end. Alka Joshi's writing is splendid! A must Read! You truly won't want to put it down !
