Story
In this extraordinary best seller, James Hillman presents a brilliant vision of our selves, and an exciting approach to the mystery at the center of every life that asks, “What is it, in my heart, that I must do, be, and have? And why?” Drawing on the biographies of figures such as Ella Fitzgerald and Mohandas K. Gandhi, Hillman argues that character is fate, that there is more to each individual than can be explained by genetics and environment. The result is a reasoned and powerful road map to understanding our true nature and discovering an eye-opening array of choices.

Story
On the morning of August 12, 2022, Salman Rushdie was standing onstage at the Chautauqua Institution, preparing to give a lecture on the importance of keeping writers safe from harm, when a man in black—black clothes, black mask—rushed down the aisle toward him, wielding a knife. His first thought: So it’s you. Here you are. What followed was a horrific act of violence that shook the literary world and beyond.

Story
At long last, Mary Beard addresses in one brave book the misogynists and trolls who mercilessly attack and demean women the world over, including, very often, Mary herself. In Women & Power, she traces the origins of this misogyny to its ancient roots, examining the pitfalls of gender and the ways that history has mistreated strong women since time immemorial.

Liked her discussion about women having a voice in all things and not just women’s’ and children’s’ matters. Now I understand why my Mother, who was a lawyer, always lowered her voice when making a business call.

What did you love best about A Fine Summer's Day?
Gives you the background you need to fully understand Inspector Routledge and Jean and Pre-War Britain
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Fine Summer's Day?
When Routlege is chasing the suspect through the villages and he misses him
Have you listened to any of Steven Crossley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
All good and believable and unobtrusive.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reaction
Any additional comments?
I have learned how pacifists were treated during and before WW I and have been scandalized by that treatment. This fits well with Downton Abbey.
