This short history of Roman Britain reads like a college term paper. It is informative and well documented. I found it to be a good introduction to a murky period in the history of Great Britain.

Heavily slanted in the direction of the UK music scene in 1971, and the salacious goings-on of the performers. Insufficient emphasis on the great music-making, and the historical/cultural context.

I finally got around to reading/listening to this classic coming of age story wrapped in a character study of small town America in the late 19th Century. It was a worthwhile experience.

Excellent content and an outstanding performance by narrator Kathe Mazurka. I don’t know what took me so long to read Quiet. It was a revelation.

I benefited greatly from this informative survey of Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. Well written and well read by the author Sanjay Gupta. I highly recommend this book in both print and audio formats.

I enjoyed Barney Hoskyns’ history of Woodstock, NY and the many remarkable musicians who were influenced by and left their mark on this small town in the Catskills. I also came to appreciate the role Albert Grossman played in the creation of this artistic community.

However, I was disappointed in Mike Chamberlain’s narration of this book. He was just reading words, without knowledge of the subject. This was apparent in the many mispronunciations of names, locations, and words. I found the quality of his voice and delivery most annoying.

I am extremely disappointed in the narration of this audio book. Jonah Cummings mispronounces too many words and too many names. His attempts to “give voice” to various quotes is annoying at best. It’s as if he is reading the text cold and without a director. The content is well crafted, and it deserves a better narrator.

I expected to learn more about Van Morrison and the making of the music for the album “Astral Weeks,” but that was just a sidebar to the story of Mel Lyman, the Fort Hill Community, and the Boston subculture of the 1960’s.
I found the performance of the narrator to be most annoying.
