Story
Springtime is finally arriving on Gardam Street, and there are surprises in store for each member of the family. Some surprises are just wonderful, like neighbor Nick Geiger coming home from war. And some are ridiculous, like Batty's new dog-walking business. Batty is saving up her dog-walking money for an extra-special surprise for her family, which she plans to present on her upcoming birthday. But when some unwelcome surprises make themselves known, the best-laid plans fall apart.

What???
Reviewed: 06-10-21
So this isn’t the Penderwicks in Spring, and it’s the same with “…At Last”: it’s Batty in spring and Lydia at last . So that’s frustrating, but why why why did you think that making Batty think she killed her mom and hound? It’s just is sooo dumb. I love the bits that didn’t involve that, but my favorite character is Skye and she was barely in it.

Story
Nine years, five older siblings, a few beloved dogs, and an endless array of adventures - these are the things that have shaped Lydia's journey since fans first met her in The Penderwicks in Spring. Now, it's summertime, and 11-year-old Lydia is dancing at the bus stop, waiting for big sister, Batty, to get home from college. This is a very important dance and a very important wait, because the two youngest sisters are about to arrive home to find out that the Penderwicks will all be returning to Arundel this summer, the place where it all began.

Story
The 150 Psalms contain some of the most inspiring lines in the Old Testament: Psalm 23 "The Lord is My Shepherd" and Psalm 121 "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills". Yet few know them as a set, and this recording, in Alex Jennings' clear performance, allows us to consider them as a whole. They are not all uplifting and comfortable. Many involve darker sentiments of revenge or punishment; many appear to be by David or about David; others are To the chief Musician upon Gittith.

Story
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

This story is both hilariously funny and deeply poignant. It’s about how growing old is not the same growing, but how both can happen together, if the fates allow.
The reader does an excellent job of conveying both the tone of Ove’s view of the world and how others respond to him.

I hate amnesia stories...
Reviewed: 03-25-15
Even though I love these books, the amnesia storyline is annoying, and creates a pointless stress on the characters. They're in a war against a military genius--surely that is stressful enough!

Story
In 1349, one small town in Germany disappeared and was never resettled. Tom, a contemporary historian, and his theoretical-physicist girlfriend, Sharon, become interested. By all logic, the town should have survived, but it didn't. Why? What was special about Eifelheim that it utterly disappeared more than 600 years ago?

Any additional comments?
This is a fabulous intersection of history and sci-fi. The characters are well-drawn, the settings believable, and the story magnificently strange. The reader did a very nice job at conveying the tone of the book, giving it excellent depth. However, and this is a big, big however, he can't read the frequent German words worth a darn, which becomes a major distraction and detraction from the overall performance. I just wish that he'd read up a tiny bit on the pronunciation.
