Anxiety and ennui after the crushed 1968 Plague Spring

The book seemingly goes on and on about trivial events in the lives of main protagonists, but as such, it conveys the feeling of anxiety and ennui of living in Czechoslovakia under communism after the 1968 had been crushed by Moscow. I have heard of the book long time ago, and I’m glad I finally read it. I also watched the movie, but you need to read the book to get the real ending. The narration is perfect for conveying the mood of the book.

Very personal history of Arab-Israeli conflicts

Invaluable autobiography that traces the Arab-Israeli conflicts by the author who was there right from the beginning—not as a policymaker but as a child who happened to have grown up in the middle of it. An essential reading for understanding how each side feels about the other and why. The narration is clear with appropriate tone.

If you want to factually and emotionally experience what it was like to live in Hungary before, during and after the 1956 uprising, read this book. It is superbly written, with all the characters, including those with minor roles, so well developed that you feel you know them intimately. Sometimes you dread to go back to reading, knowing bad things are going to happen, but you just can’t let it go, because you are so emotionally invested in their plight. The narrator is excellent as well, with clarity and a right amount of emotion.
