Story
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

A good read. Well written. Suspenseful and interesting. Captured small town Indiana life. Narrators a little annoying.

Story
Danish countess Karen Blixon, known as Isak Dineson, ran a coffee plantation in Kenya in the years when Africa remained a romantic and formidable continent to most Europeans. Out of Africa is her account of her life there, with stories of her respectful relationships with the Masai, Kikuyu, and Somali natives who work on her land; the European friends who visit her; and the imposing permanence of the wild, high land itself.

Gorgeous book, magnificent narration

This may be the best book I have heard on Audible. The story is interesting, and the writing is superb. But it is Julie Harris‘ narration which makes the book come alive. She brings out all the emotion with amazing subtlety. What an artist she was!

Pretty good historical novel
Reviewed: 03-27-18
The story was generally interesting but overlong, a real defect in an audio book. I fast forwarded through many scenes. The characters, particularly the women, were pretty two-dimensional. John Lee did manage to bring a lot of individuality.
