Story
Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then...he hears the plot.

This an excellent story, actually two stories interwoven in a great way. The narrator is doing a great job as well. I loved it! Worth buying!

Story
Edward is living in a world he can't afford and to which he doesn't belong. To camouflage himself, he has catered to his friends' needs – fetching drycleaning, sorting flowers for premieres. It's a noble effort, really – anything to keep his best pals Robert and Stanza happy. In return, his proximity to them might sponge the shame of his birth and violent past cleanly away. But the chink in his armour is his painfully unrequited love for Stanza. When he realises Stanza and Robert are an item, Edward is pushed too far.

An excellent story with lots of twists and turns and mainly based on a few characters that are superbly described and developed throughout the plot. I love the setting in an Irish village with its own set of unwritten rules and characters moving in and about, everyone trying to find their way. Best book this year!

December 1941. America teeters on the brink of war, and in Honolulu, Hawaii, police detective Joe McGrady is assigned to investigate a homicide that will change his life forever. The trail of murder he uncovers will lead him across the Pacific, far from home and the woman he loves; and though the U.S. doesn't know it yet, a Japanese fleet is already steaming toward Pearl Harbor. Spanning the entirety of World War II, Five Decembers is a beautiful, masterful, powerful novel that will live in your memory forever.

I loved the book. It goes way beyond the crime story as which it starts. History gets woven into the plot in an elegant and unobtrusive manner. The narrator performs absolutely excellent! I loved to listen until the last minute of it. Highly recommended!

Great start, complicated ending
Reviewed: 04-13-21
I very much enjoyed the first half of the book. The story is very engaging and keeps you captivated. The second half not so much. For me the flow wasn’t as good anymore. Too many new characters and cumbersome explanations. Not as good as expected.

This is an excellent book. It’s a thrilling story that will keep you engaged until the last minute. It’s told at a great pace, I got through it in a few days despite working all day. Just couldn’t stop listening at night. The narrator does an excellent job mimicking the different characters with distinct voices. Can only recommend this one!

This book was a real disappointment. Not the level and sophistication you would expect from Grisham. It was more like a cheap, boiler plate crime novel with a mostly foreseeable and simple plot. Was this Book really written by Grisham??

Story
The number one New York Times best-selling master of international intrigue takes readers into the bleeding-edge world of technological espionage in a propulsive thriller that feels chillingly real. Former chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service Adrian Weston is awoken in the middle of the night by a phone call from the prime minister. Her news is shocking: The Pentagon, the NSA, and the CIA have been hacked simultaneously, their seemingly impenetrable firewalls breached by an unknown enemy known only as "The Fox".

A mix of facts, fiction and opinion
Reviewed: 10-28-18
This book is well written and presented. It’s a nice spy story. What I didn’t like is that current facts from the world around us are mixed with fiction and that many of the alleged intelligence insights are presumably the authors opinion and not real. This makes hard if not impossible for the audience to distinguish between facts and fiction. A book written by a master but done in a way I don’t support. Therefore my rating of 3.

Story
Until recently Tess Vigeland was a longtime host of public radio's Marketplace. It was a rewarding, high-status job, and Tess was very good at it - but she'd begun to feel restless. Without any definite, clear sense of what she wanted to do next (but an absolute certainty that what she'd been doing was no longer truly satisfying), she walked away from her dream job and into a vast unknown. Suddenly she was no longer " Marketplace's Tess Vigeland"; she was just Tess Vigeland.

A good and personal view on a major disruption in one’s life: leaving your job without a clear plan. Good thoughts, other views added. The missing piece is how to survive, as money didn’t turn out to be a major issue in this case. Nevertheless worth listening!
