Story
Sarah Price has never regretted trading her MFA for a steady job so that her husband, Nathan, could write fiction. But at age 35, her world is turned upside-down by a shocking revelation: Nathan's upcoming novel, Infidelity, is based on fact. Reeling from his betrayal, Sarah is plagued by dark questions. How well does she really know her husband? More important, how well does she know herself?

I waited so long...

What disappointed you about Husband and Wife?
I read The Myth of Me & You, Leah Stewart's first novel and couldn't wait for her to publish her next. Every time I logged in I searched under author's name. Finally came the day when her next book arrived. I was more than disappointed. What happend? Her first book was so thought provoking and real. This book seemed cliche and "been there done that". Frankly I could not stand the narration either.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Gabrielle de Cuir?
Anyone. Too dramatic and whiny.

Story
Meri is newly married, pregnant, and standing on the cusp of her life as a wife and mother, recognizing with some terror the gap between reality and expectation. Delia Naughton, wife of the two-term liberal senator Tom Naughton, is Meri's new neighbor in the adjacent New England town house. Delia's husband's chronic infidelity has been an open secret in Washington circles, but despite the complexity of their relationship, the bond between them remains strong.

I didn't get it.

About 9 hours and 26 minutes of character development and one hour of plot (if you can call it that). The author is talented in developing the characters and there are definitely some moments of truth but I was disappointed. I started this book with a libraby audio book and then downloaded it when I realized the sixth disc was all scratched up. Had I known I would never have wasted the credit.

Story
It may be difficult to imagine a life-affirming book which begins with the main character, a 14-year-old girl, recounting her rape and murder, but Alice Sebold's debut novel is just such a book. Having received advance critical acclaim that before now was reserved only for literary giants, this book will no doubt invite comparisons to works such as Tracy Chevalier's The Girl with the Pearl Earring and Toni Morrison's Beloved.

An enjoyable book

four 1/2 stars. I read (listened) to this book on the advice of three avid readers who raved about it. I truly enjoyed it and could not wait to get back in my car. My only negative point is that there are, at times, long portions of imagery that can lead you to go astray if you are not a focused reader/listener. Overall definitely worth the time. The lessons learned by the charachters are thought provoking and the ending was very clever.
