Really helpful for high beginner low intermediate
Reviewed: 08-18-23
This was perfect with a few sentences at a time before translation to give you a chance to catch as much as possible but not so long that you lose the thread. If absolute beginner (less than 50 hours dtidy under your belt) this is too advanced but if you have the basics this is a perfect way to bridge into intermediate

Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Prince Harry is actually a good narrator
Reviewed: 02-03-23
I rarely enjoy narrated by the author books. This was an exception. Prince Harry was captivating and emotive and hearing it in his own voice added to the depth of the experience. I liked this more than Id expected to- at heart its the story of a dysfunctional family and the resulting emotional trauma- you’ll recognize your own family in these royals and while at points I thought eh first world problems there is still validity in the points made and clear truth.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites listeners into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her - from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it - in her own words and on her own terms.

Excellent though not Perfect- Just Like Mrs.Obama
Reviewed: 12-02-18
I loved this book, It gives you so much insight into Michelle Obama and her life story outside of the context of simply being the 'wife of' .The title is appropriate as this book details how Michelle became Michelle.
My few qripes- The narration was slow. Mrs. Obama narrates the book herself which is great but she speaks very slowly. I listened at 1.5 speed and found that this vastly improved the narration. I expected at least a bit of insider gossip or dish on the celebrities or world leaders that she has met however Mrs. Obama is far too classy for that and if your looking for a TMZ style dish fest this isn't it.
On the positive side- It is an inspiring story of how a woman with a lower middle class background was able to use her intelligence and grit to propel herself, and later her husband, to heights far higher than anyone- even she herself- expected. I found it motivating and encouraging.
It is a long read and could have benefited from more editing, in particular within the first third of the book that focuses on her childhood, which I found too long and a bit tedious. Also I would have loved more details from her White house time a section of the book that I suspect was more heavily edited. Overall- Excellent though not Perfect- Just Like Mrs.Obama.

Fan of the author- this one is good but not great

Would you listen to The Perfect Neighbors again? Why?
No It was enjoyable but not my favorite from this author If you are a fan of this author you will like but if you haven't read this author before pick a different title of hers.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Tessa -her story evolved in a way that was unpredictable
What about Madeleine Maby’s performance did you like?
I really prefer Cassandra Campbell as narrator- Maby's voices of the characters was not as distinct and I often got confused between characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Husbands and Wives and the things they do to and for each other

Story
Joy Bergman is not slipping into old age with the quiet grace her children, Molly and Daniel, would prefer. She won't take their advice, and she won't take an antidepressant. Her marriage to their father, Aaron, has lasted through health and dementia, as well as some phenomenally lousy business decisions. The Bergman clan has always stuck together, growing as it incorporated in-laws, ex-in-laws, and same-sex spouses. But families don't just grow, they grow old.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

The narrative was detailed and beautifully written but the plot was lacking. I found myself continually waiting for the book to get started and the plot to begin. About halfway through I wanted to quit listening but having already invested so much time into it I forced myself to stick with it thinking that it would get better. The ending abrupt with no real resolution. So much time was spent examining the main characters psyche that I became bored with her. Meanwhile the other characters were only touched on so their actions seemed odd and their motivations unclear. I can't recommend this book.
