An honest, insightful and enjoyable account of a North Dakota farm boy who through timing, luck, skill, and common sense intelligence had a consequential Naval Career, including Leader of the World Famous Flight Demonstration Team, The Blue Angels. I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in aviation, the Navy/Military and flight demonstration teams. You will gain a rare, honest insight into how things really work and how things really get done. Bravo Zulu Captain Rud!!!

A departure from Peter Diamond CIS detective in Bath to a quirky, enjoyable, tongue in cheek tale set in Chichester, "The Circle" narrated by dependable Simon Prebble is a winner.

Early significant error subsequently overcome

Early in this interesting book, author Jeffrey Cox mistakenly states that Edward "Butch" O'Hare USN and Naval Academy graduate was the first WWII ace for the US Army Air Corps. The correct citation is that O'Hare was the first Navy Ace, and subsequent Medal of Honor winner. This is such a glaring error that it undermined my confidence in the rest of the book.

The book is very enjoyable and factually correct as far as I can tell. The author does take liberties in spinning the story to relate the state of mind of various individuals which is impossible for anyone to know.

I recommend that the Butch O'Hare information be corrected by updating the recording.

Even though this title was initially published in 1965, it is incredibly enjoyable and immensely creative in plot and insight into jumps racing in 1960's UK.

As an avid student of WWII history, I found that this book shed light on a completely new aspect of WWII for me; This is a compelling, heartwarming story of a humble leader and his relationship and loyalty to his elephants. It is an amazing tale of dedication, loyalty and ethical conduct during a horrible and tragic war.
