Story
Possibly it's not to save a pair of drowning girls, not go 'viral' on social media and certainly not to let the local police take your passport, trapping you on a small 'party' island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. But Steve isn't the average guy, he's ex-military, ex-enforcer and ex-human. He's a one man nanite fuelled nightmare for those that cross the line, and he's decided that its time to clean up his act. He's going to make up for the things he's done, and save 'the little guys'.

This guy is so cool...
Reviewed: 09-30-22
The MC is cool. The coolest guy you've ever met. No, I take that back. He's cooler than cool. Here he is, just chillin in the water when all of a sudden... BAM! Hot chick and her friend randomly approaches him, and proceeds to immediately make out with him. Seriously? Do women exist to prop up the MC's vanity?
What does the MC do when previously mentioned women are drowning? Well, he saves them of course! But wait! He's got to save them in the most outlandish and vanity driven way.
"The camera on the phone in the dad’s hand panned around, tracking me, my bike’s engine filling the air as I raced past, sunglasses on, designer stubble and short hair, the bike and my hard-earned muscles making me look like a f***ing god among lesser men as I shot the camera a grin before standing up on the seat and driving it straight off the edge of the cliff and out over the sea."
Really? It was at this point where I just couldn't continue. Sure, I finished the chapter, but that was it. And I'm disappointed too. The prologue and the whole premise of the book sound interesting! And the voice acting is phenomenal from what little I've listened to. I'm just sorry that they had to narrate this misogynistic, ego driven character.

great story but...
Reviewed: 02-19-22
The overall story is great, but I feel like it's full of pointless battles and dumb decisions. You don't have to choreograph every single battle or encounter. Sometimes it's ok to just say "And they defeated the chimps". I feel like half the book is long drawn out fights. That isn't to say that I don't like those kinds of fights, I just don't want to listen to one 1/2 hour fight after another. After a while all the fights follow the following formula. Every fight has to have some struggle followed by a narrow victory. It bogs down the pace of the story. And then there's the dumb decisions to make the team struggle against enemy's that they should beat easily. like, the team struggled against a mage with one gem of power when they had three gems between them! How can this one mage be so powerful against them when, about 10 min later, they go on to defeat an enemy so powerful it can wipe out a whole city??? But putting aside the problems I have with the fights, the story is interesting and I'll buy the next book to finish the series.

In order to be successful, he is given a Mech Core and acquires the Cymech class. There's just one problem: He's got no resources, apart from a mangy kid. At least the kid is a savvy engineer. With mere pieces of a mech build, Gnath is supposed to level up and take on dangerous enemies. Oh yea — he's also got to watch his stabilization. If he doesn't, he risks dying to the Cyborg effect.

Story
Hank Merrick was a pretty unremarkable guy - until the world went and got itself destroyed. Unspeakable horrors now wander around ruined cities, claiming what little is left of the old world, and only the dead and forgotten are left to tell the tales. Freshly expired himself, Hank’s spirit begins a mysterious misadventure - finding purpose in the afterlife. Using guile, a bit of iron, and his shambling corpse companion named Maw, Hank sarcastically slogs through the nightmare landscape.

wow! was there a lot of world building crammed into this little story. Going into this, you already know it's a certain level because of the amazing Travis Baldree and I can say that he doesn't disappoint. There's a lot of action in this little piece and if you like snarky ghosts, don't hesitate to pick this one up!

Summoned to a world in the midst of apocalypse, Daniel Black would have his hands full just staying alive. Add in refugees, desperate soldiers, scheming nobles and a pair of thoroughly wicked witches, and life is going to be very busy indeed. Good thing he has magic of his own to even the scales. But will even that be enough?

WOW. DNF at 45 min.
Reviewed: 10-14-21
Wow. just...... wow. I had to DNF at 45 min in. I've struggled my way through such books as the valens legacy, but the way that the author wrote women was entirely inappropriate and offensive. And I'm a straight male!!! AND I WAS ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH THE FREKING SECOND CHAPTER!!! seriously. I read the reviews and thought I could ignore the misogynistic attitude, but I was wrong.
