everyone who loves this book really needs to listen to the audio...it adds a few layers to the story that are meaningful and brings rhe characters to life even more vibrantly... in my humble opinion it should be on everyonea top ten fiction books of all time. it captures all the drama of life: good vs evil, sacrifice vs selfishness, friendship and courage vs servitidude motivated by fear, liberty and service of others vs totalitarianism and lust for power and control....very much applicable today as it ever was when first penned. Insert mandates and communism and censorship and corrupt politicians for woundwort and efrafa and you pretty much are looking at Communist countries and the more than 100 million dead citizens of those countries... yet today somehow America's corrupt ruling class now thinks they can do censorship snd mandates and control "for our good" better than the tyrant failures before them. may God help men and women raise hazels and big wigs and hyzenthlays and clovers to resist the tide of totalitarianism and communism that is becoming so prevalent in our country. "give me liberty or give me death (patrick henry) was true during 1776, and true on Watership Down, and it will be true in the hearts of all men throughout time in every culture.

Story
What happens when one of America’s most beloved biographers writes his own biography? For five-time New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas, the answer is Fish Out of Water: A Search for the Meaning of Life - a soaring, lyrical, and often mischievous account of his early years, in which the astute Queens-born son of Greek and German immigrants struggles to make sense of a world in which he never quite seems to fit.

encouraging story for weary hearts

metaxas is great. this book had lots of his witty humor expressed in his usual writing style but it was expressed warmly in his childhood memories..and later more robustly with his college escapades....but the underlying theme of the book is "longing" and the universal human desire to be known and loved.. and like many of us, we try other things first to fill that longing...the honest description of his despair was something I felt and could sympathize with, which ultimately made the victorious ending so much more meaningful to me as the listener/reader. "Truth is a person" was a quote he used to describe the reality of Christ as Savior and God that pulled him about of the abyss of the "meaningless existence" he wrestled with for years....this liberty and acceptance in Christ that set him free to new life made me rejoice as if Eric were my best friend....in Christ He is my brother and do thank him for honoring God with the grace in his life story while always owning his shortcomings. eric, thanks for the testimony of telling others what God has done for you.

Story
In the early 18th century, the Pirate Republic was home to some of the great pirate captains, including Blackbeard, "Black Sam" Bellamy, and Charles Vane. Along with their fellow pirates - former sailors, indentured servants, and runaway slaves - this "Flying Gang" established a crude but distinctive democracy in the Bahamas, carving out their own zone of freedom in which servants were free, Blacks could be equal citizens, and leaders were chosen or deposed by a vote.

This is an audiobook about marriage. It is for happy marriages, marriages that have lost their fizzle, and painful marriages on the verge of divorce. Whatever your situation, the application of this audiobook will lead to a richer, more satisfying marriage. That is because God created the original marriage of Adam and Eve in a Genesis two paradise. He united them with lofty expectations.

outstanding book on marriage!
Reviewed: 04-13-21
I absolutely loved this book. It's emphasis on God's word as the blueprint for meaningful marriage was communicated accurately and practically. I really can't recommend this book more highly, as it illustrated well the goal of marriage and had great chapters covering everything from friendhsip to sex. Most importantly, the author kept Christ as our example and the truth of the Gospel as our reason to love, walk in humility, confess/forgive etc... God himself is the means of which we obey his commands to be a loving/faithful husband or wife and this encouraged me greatly. i will be sharing this book with friends and family!

The key to a good marriage is honest, complete, and humble confession of sin. This short, little audiobook, coming from a pastor with 40 years of experience, offers concrete practical suggestions about how to confess sin properly and how to avoid other snares married people tend to get snagged on, usually depending on whether they're the man or the woman.

One of America's most heralded young divers, David Boudia twice went for Olympic gold, training obsessively and wholeheartedly for success. In his first Olympics, he failed miserably, not winning a single medal. Four years later saw a different story: He mounted the podium twice, winning both gold and bronze. The difference? In the intervening years, he'd changed the focus of his quest from seeking glory for himself to giving glory to God.

great redemption story/good theological insight, well written. avoids the pitfall of bad theology such as 'if you love God you win a gold medal' the author also is clear about his sin and his continual daily need for Christ. highly recommend it and I don't have any interest in diving.
