A Guide to the Accumulation of Power
Reviewed: 10-18-19
Stories showcasing the thrilling exploits of lovable rouges or brave pilots facing incredible odds are always a fun read. There are however other stories that, while not constantly spiking one's adrenaline, nonetheless provide entertainment on a more cerebral plane that is equally enjoyable and often makes a more lasting impact.
Tales of political intrigue done well give you a fascinating insight on the machinations employed to accumulate the ultimate prize; power over others. Along the way they can also give you lessons on the motivations and justifications that compel people towards ever-increasing acts of abominable behavior. Each step along the path to power is an exercise of self-delusion.
Darth Plagueis is a dense tome outlining the fruition of a strategy in play for a thousand years. Starting with Darth Bane and his "Rule of Two" for the Sith -- one master to embody the power, one apprentice to crave the power -- and culminating with Darth Sidious, the galaxy finally succumbs to the dark side of the force.

Great Stories and Straight Talk From a Legend

Terry Funk has risen in my estimation over the years to become my favorite wrestler all-time along with Roddy Piper. Funk holds the edge regarding in-ring performance while Piper holds the edge in promos. Both have participated in numerous outrageous antics that have kept me entertained for decades.
This book is a candid look at life as a professional wrestler. Funk doesn't refrain from revealing the less glamorous aspects of the business. Bad payoffs, long drives, and countless injuries are part of the game but it doesn't obscure his obvious reverence for his chosen profession.
Several parts of this book are laugh out loud funny. The stories contain lessons on life applicable to everyone.
