Each lesson in Portuguese (Brazilian) Level 1 Lessons 1-5 provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Each lesson contains practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension and on learning to speak Brazilian Portuguese.

In my book speaking is first and fundamental!

I give the Pimsleur Brazilian Portuguese five stars because it is one of the few language courses that puts you immediately into a scenario where you have to speak, rather than read or learn grammar, in learning a new language. I have learned to speak to an intermediate level the languages of French and Tagalog with ease of remembrance. It has helped me in short trips to France and the Philippines. These courses work the voice and get one talking. Learning the rest (vocabulary, grammar, and deeper levels) come from speaking to natives, buying the 501 Verbs books, and studying the culture. If one is serious to start speaking first, with the rest over time, I can't think of another method to get anyone going.
