Zarefsky does a great job of explaining both the technical and practical side of argumentation. He also does a good job dispelling the myths that argument is merely a excuse for bickering or directed anger. From argument structure, theories, fallacies, types, and more, this great courses gives a swath of information to the curious listener seeking to better argue his/her point or more effectively judge arguments.

This Great Course surprised me in the choice of topics and persons. He covers the classical or Western and Indian political thought. He also focuses on the power of the self which is evident in his coverage of Freud and Gandhi. However, the main focus is still how to rule over people whether that is the idealism of Rousseau or Plato or the gritty realism of Machiavelli.

To anyone who wishes to know more about ancient history, and even some of their roots in Western civilization, I recommend this lecture series.
The professor does a fantastic job of explaining the material in an engaging fashion, and even though I don't agree with his assessments on the origins of certain religious traditions, I learned an incredible amount. You will want to continue learning about Egypt once you are done.

If you have ever wondered the why or how of how us humans work, this is an awesome choice. Engaging and easy to comprehend, Dr. Martin does a fantastic job of using proper terminology while he accessible to all backgrounds.

Professor Johnson knows his stuff, but he delivers it in a bland way. I enjoyed learning what he had to offer. Still, I found myself having to sit through the first minute or two and the last minute or two through will power. Overall I would recommend this, but only if you are seriously interested in the subject.

I really enjoyed listening to Fukuyama's ideas revolving around the three institutions that make up modern government: democratic accountability, a strong state, and the rule of law. He makes a compelling argument about how these are in tension but all required for a modern liberal democracy. He also holds that liberal democracy is an general evolutional step on the politics rung. However, regardless of your political views or your political philosophy, he is very good at explaining multiple societies and the reasons they exist in their current and former forms.

I found this lecture series to be a really helpful guide into early Christianity in terms of development of doctrine, hierarchy, and the rise of orthodoxy. While he may challenge certain people's faith through the lecture, I think the work is in the end a growing experience for both the believer and nonbeliever.
