Such an amazing story to tell
Reviewed: 10-21-05
Having just finished The Narnian I couldn't help comparing the experiences of Lewis and Tolkien to Stanek. Stanek has such an amazing story to tell and this highly interesting book provides so many insights not to mention four very good stories. I enjoyed learning more about this magnificent author and travelling the Kingdoms.

Story
The White Witch, Aslan, fauns and talking beasts, centaurs and epic battles between good and evil: these have become a part of our collective imagination through the classic volumes of The Chronicles of Narnia. Yet who was the man who created this world? This audiobook attempts to unearth the making of the first Narnian, C. S. Lewis himself.

The Narnian
Reviewed: 10-21-05
C.S Lewis is a theologian and Christian writer. He was good friends with fellow writer and academic J.R.R. Tolkien. Both Lewis and Tolkien were members of the Inklings, a writers group that met regularly during the time Lewis was writing The Chronicles of Narnia and Tolkien was writing The Lord of the Rings. The Narnian is the story of C.S Lewis from his childhood in Ireland to his experiences in WWI to his highly interesting association with Tolkien.
The most amazing part of this to me is how the experiences of up-and-comers Lewis and Tolkien in the twentieth century parallels that of the experiences of up-and-coming authors in the twenty-first century and most notably, my favorite author.

I don't quite get the appeal of this book. It isn't horrible, but it's not that entertaining either. Perhaps better if you haven't listened to good mystery in a while.

Just when I was thinking it couldn't get any better, the author delivers the grand finale of a terrific series! Our family loves these books, and by far the best series we've listened to on Audible. I recommend these books to anyone, from any age group, that likes fantasy, mystery and far away worlds. If you don't like such things, well, you will after you finish reading this one!

This incredible series only improves as it goes along! The external speakers we bought for our iPod was our best investment so far as our whole family gathers to listen to the stories. These stories are one of the all time classics for all ages. We've enjoyed watching Adrina grow into a more mature young woman, Vilmos accept who he is and go on great adventures, Seth battle the elements and unseen foes, and Xith at the center of it all.

Our whole family listened and enjoyed this. This second book continues the adventures of Adrina, Vilmos and Seth. This is an incredible series that we simply can't get enough of. These books have just about everything - heroes, scoundrels, mystery, action, drama, magic.
Book two gets you deeper and deeper into the story, and it gets better and better. Well worth the price and time. The reading is excellent. Once again, I enjoyed every minute.

Story
After the Great War that divided the peoples, the kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man, or device, shall be cleansed to dust. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond.

Our whole family listened and enoyed this. This is the start of an incredible series! The story starts with Adrina's story. Adrina wishes for change but when it comes it's not what she expected. There's also has the story of others like Vilmos and Seth.
These books have just about everything - heroes, scoundrels, mystery, action, drama, magic. Book one is just the beginning, and even though I think this ones 5-stars, the other ones are much better. You get deeper and deeper into the story, and it gets better and better.
Well worth the price and time. The reading is excellent. I enjoyed every minute.
