A holiday novella. The Shoemakers and Ferraros plan to spend Christmas in Texas with Larry and Jane Ann's brother and then take a camping trip through the Southwest. But those plans are stopped cold when they hit a rogue ice storm in Missouri and they end up snowbound in a campground. And that's just the beginning.

Fun, light hearted Christmas story.
Reviewed: 12-08-22
I called this a cozy mystery because that is what the other books in this series are. However this time Frannie manages to go camping without any dying. None of the kids and grandkids are coming to celebrate Christmas with their parents so at the last minute they decide to travel to Texas for Christmas. Along they way they run into ice that quickly turns into a blizzard and they end up snowed in and spending Christmas Eve in a campground with the Ferraros. Of course it can't be simple, the storm takes out the power, they collect a stray dog and find a person almost frozen to death in the snow, he survives. But they have a good time together and make a few new friends along the way. This is a fun, light book to listen too while you decorate for Christmas or travel, hopefully without a blizzard, to visit friends and family.

Minnie Crockwell has retired from work at a young age and has hit the road in RV to see the world. However her traveling companion is a bit older, and a bit dead. Peregrine Ebenezer Alvord, Ben, was a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and one morning just didn't wake up. Somehow he has become attached to Minnie and the 2 are traveling state parks. Along the way the run into a few problems.
Book 1 - Trouble at Happy Trails
Minnie settles in to her place at Happy Trails RV Park but before the night is over she is consoling the new widow who also happens to the one of the park host. Did her husband meet a tragic accident or did someone kill him? Will Minnie and Ben figure out what happened before someone decides they are just too nosy?
Book 2 - Trouble at Sunny Lake
Ready for some relaxing time after their last ill-fated stop Minnie and Ben check in to a campground by a beautiful lake. Minnie signs out a pontoon boat to go relax and explore the lake. She sees something along the shoreline and decides to get closer to see if the flash of blue was bird. Sadly it was the body of a young man. As Minnie and Ben investigate they discover the young man had a long and troubled history with the people in the area and they have no shortage of suspects. Will they solve the mystery before someone decides what's one more murder?
Book 3 - Trouble at Glacier
Minnie and Ben head to a National Park to enjoy the scenery at the end of the season. They are hoping to drive across the edge of the glacier and enjoy the views. When they arrive at the National Park they are told there has been a bear sited in the area and they need to be extra cautious. Later that night Minnie hears a scream and finds the body of a fellow camper, apparently attacked by a bear. Will Minnie and Ben be able to relax and enjoy their time at Glacier? Does everyone in the park have a history? They all seem to know each other and have reasons to hate each other.
These books are a wonderful introduction to an unusual but very endearing pair of sleuths. I look forward to listening to many more.

The Tsar has outlawed magic since the war. People need to be protected from wild magickers who can cause mass destruction and death with their uncontrolled abilities. Parents are expected to bring their children to the Tsar if they develop magical abilities. Once a child has been turned over they are almost never seen again.
Alana's little brother has developed magical abilities and she wants to get him out the 3 kingdoms so he will be safe. In their efforts to escape the authority of the Tsar Alana and her brother end up running with Devon, a disgraced, retired solider. He was afraid of his own strength when fighting and was afraid of that taking him over. They also collect Devon's friend the retired solider now barkeep and a priestess who has been living in the forest for years. As the group runs from the Tsar's Stalkers they are plagued by the unusual knowledge the lead stalker seems to have of Alanna.
This is a wonderful introduction to a series and I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Politics make for strange bedfellows
Reviewed: 01-12-18
If you could sum up Lady Justice and the Assassin in three words, what would they be?
Politics really does make for strange bedfellows. The Neo-Nazis are teaming up with the Ozark Militia (a group that wants to do away with government control) to assassinate the President of the United States. Both groups dislike him for different reasons but have the same goal of getting him out of office before he can make too many changes they don't like. Once again Walt is in the right place at the right time and manages to thwart their assassination attempt on the President. When Walt takes off with the would-be assassin, an average Joe who has fallen on hard times and is desperate to take care of his family, the crazies come after them. After-all they had promised their assassin that if he took their money and failed to perform they would kill him and his entire family. Walt counts on the anger of the Neo-Nazis and the Ozark Militia and uses them to solve a completely unrelated problem.

Cara is cautious; Taylor was the wife of one of Alaska's most renowned artists, Jonathan Snow, who was mauled to death by a bear the previous year. Why would his widow want to return to the location of her tragic loss? Something about Taylor's story just doesn't ring true.

A wonderful introduction to a new series. It's cruise ship season in Coho Bay, Alaska and Caribou, most people call her Cara, is busy selling artwork to the droves of cruise ship passengers. Cara's old college friend Taylor, who is also the widow of Cara's friend the famous artist Jonathan Snow, shows up in her shop. Taylor somehow always seems to bring drama wherever she goes. The Sheriff, and sole member of the police force, believes Cara had something to do with the death of her husband. Something about Taylor's story, or lack of story, makes Cara a bit nervous. One night she notices someone watching her home and a friend tells her she needs to start locking her door. Then her friend disappears and a body, without hands, feet or head, is found in a crab trap. The Sheriff is back asking Taylor more questions. Will they find out who the killer is before they have the chance to strike again? Fans of the romance between Stephanie Plum, Joe Morelli and Ranger in Janet Evanovich's novels will be interested in the tension developing at the end of this book.

Wonderful book. Somehow they managed to write a book where a dog has been nominated for mayor of a small town and there is international espionage and make the book both fun and exciting at the same time. When the police chief of Spencer ends up arresting both candidates for mayor for fighting at a debate he gets fed up and decides to nominate Gnarly, a German Shepard, for mayor. As Gnarly starts to rise in the popularity in the polls and the 2 human candidates start to panic that they might actually lose to a dog they start looking for dirt on Gnarly. They find what they think could be dirt but instead turns out to be an unsolved murder. As Gnarly's humans get busy defending his reputation they end up solving several cold case murders, and solving some that had been originally classified at suicides. One of those murders, the death of Gnarly's handler while he served in the Army, leads to the discovery of a traitor at the highest levels of the CIA. Of course people high up in the CIA don't go down without a fight. Will Gnarly be able to protect his human family? Will he end up as mayor of Spencer?

Due to some confusion caused by a language barrier a day laborer ends up taking the cans home with him instead. Only problems is some of the cans don't contain soup anymore. The eccentric home owner had been cleaning the cans, filling them money and welding the lids back on. His family realizes what has happened when one of them opens one of the few cans they had taken to their home and instead of soup they find $100 bills rolled up inside the can. Audrey and her crew are off on a wild adventure to try and retrieve the money. The vengeful daughter has been working hard to ruin Audrey's business.
