I really enjoyed this book and came away with a more favorable impression of her than when she ran for president in 2020. She is authentic and incredibly passionate in her support for the rights of all people, holding perpetrators accountable and approaching solutions in a way that tries to address root causes of msjor issues facing our country not only their symptoms.

Lively Animated fast paced delivery disconnected from content
Reviewed: 04-01-24
I appreciate what the author is trying to do but the reader’s delivery was so contrived and disconnected from the content I had to shut it off. Like a bot reading your best friend’s well written eulogy at 1.5x speed irregardless of meaning.

Some great analogies
Reviewed: 10-25-23
I enjoyed this trip through the episodes in order as the author insists. It unfolds with humor and some great analogies. Although you may have heard all this stuff before, she really does get you to slow down and do the steps. The episodes are short and digestible. I feel my perspective has landed in a more positive self affirming place since finishing the series.

Story
When you are codependent, you are unconscious. You do not know that emotional neglect has caused your brain to believe life is a threatening reality. Instead of believing you are worthy of love, you feel unworthy of love. You do not make choices because they might bring you joy. You play it small, try not to rock the boat, people-please, and focus on what you do not want to happen versus what you would like to happen.

Buy the hard copy instead

An excellent follow up/follow through to her Road Back To Me autobiography, but it is essentially a workbook of journal questions and as such, listeners would be better served with the hard copy vs using up an audible credit.

Story
This story is told through the jagged peephole of the author's awareness, examining her formative wounds and influences from the perspective of a woman who has now gained experience and wisdom. As she peers over her soul's shoulder, she recalls the chaos of her once-fragile childhood mind. She shudders as she is reminded of the sting of her lonely childhood, her feelings of abandonment, and her painful memories of being bullied.

Credentials from a life lived
Reviewed: 08-29-22
I could not stop listening to this autobiography of codependency and recovery and finished it in 2 days. Lisa Romano is a life coach certified by I don’t know where, and is not be a psychologist and I don’t know where her expertise derives from besides lived experience, therapy and self help books. But, she is authentic, really gets it, and has done the work. I read/listened to this after her youtube videos really spoke to me in a way that others hadn’t and the tools she freely offers really helped me as a partially recovered codependent adult child of a narcissist. I wanted to know more about who this woman was and is.You will not find advice in this book, but a story of Lisa’s journey that is hopeful and empowering.

Success through beating yourself up harder
Reviewed: 07-07-21
Not for me. The truth is, I had to stop listening to this book after the first chapter when The premise for the book was revealed. Perhaps it gets less punitive later on, but the author’s inspiration is sharing the success tips he learned and so admires from his draconian upbringing. He reveres his coach father who was extremely tough and did not think his players had a valid reason to go off the field “unless bone was showing.” And the author was raised the same way from waking in the morning through everything else. It is the “no excuses” approach, even if your excuse is that you love and respect yourself enough to skip this type of self abuse. I believe in succeeding and transcending limitations by honoring who you are and consistently supporting the conditions that allow you to express your purpose in a satisfying and prosperous way. Not the kill yourself to get to the top at all costs method where, when you arrive, you are welcome to lie there worn and ragged.

Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.
