Story
There are plenty of things Gracie doesn't know. These things keep her awake at night. Gracie longs for something bigger and grander and truer, and feels certain there is more to life beyond school and dull church sermons. She worries about the soldiers in Vietnam and wonders what it must be like to have been born Lisa Marie Presley from Tennessee instead of Gracie Lee Abbott from Arkansas. Mostly, she wishes her Daddy wasn't so mean.

Engaging, touching, story
Reviewed: 11-18-18
A story with an alcoholic abusive father and long suffering religious mother is not exactly new but this was a very well told story and I had a hard time putting it down. As the story wrapped up, however. one of the plot lines was weak and the other was disappointing and kind of ruined it for me.

Story
Rachel Jenner is walking in a Bristol park with her eight-year-old son, Ben, when he asks if he can run ahead. It's an ordinary request on an ordinary Sunday afternoon, and Rachel has no reason to worry - until Ben vanishes. Police are called, search parties go out, and Rachel, already insecure after her recent divorce, feels herself coming undone. As hours and then days pass without a sign of Ben, everyone who knew him is called into question, from Rachel's newly married ex-husband to her mother-of-the-year sister.

Good British "whodoneit"

A very entertaining, compelling read, although a little slow in the middle. I did not guess the ending. Good character development. A little weak on what the police could/should/normally do. It would make a good movie. The agony and trauma for the detective adds some realism.

Ten years ago, at the height of her glamour and fame, she was incarcerated for the murder of her mother, a philanthropist best known for her string of rich husbands. Not believable
Reviewed: 08-20-15
I don't know why I stuck with this- just something to listen to, I guess. The story of this town was not believable and the characters seemed stuck back in time. The ending was ridiculous. The motives didn't make sense and what about this guy Noah? Totally undeveloped character. I can't recommend this book.
