Great story
Reviewed: 10-03-24
A great coming of age, underdog with a unique skill, and romance story. Following a familiar but still good formula.
The only bad thing about this story are the huge amount of lose ends which are never mentioned again. Expecting a lot from the last book, but got a bit disappointed. And the protagonist sometimes being ignorant, closed minded, and cold hearted.
The narrator did a splendid job though!

Amazing, enlightning, but too short. I’m hungry for more. The way he describes complex astrophysical phenomena in plain language is marvellous. And the ending is sublime.

Feelings, love triangles, feelings
Reviewed: 04-06-24
Well written book, interesting fantasy story about mortals, (demi)gods and forbidden love. However I felt it was written for another (female) audience, as there is a lot of talk about the protagonists feelings, and about relationships, constantly. My wife would have loved this perhaps, but I didn’t. I expected more (time travel) action to happen. Overall I kind of enjoyed it, but wouldn’t listen to it again. Not because of the narration though, that was done perfectly, a reason I kept listening.

Story
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Great audio performance, average story
Reviewed: 06-19-23
The narration was brilliant, with audio effects as if it was all recorded. However the story was a bit disappointing to me, felt a disconnected between the mythical tribe and the crime story. And an anticlimax at the end. I was expecting more tales of the Iñukuns and a more connected story.

Story
A girl and her father live close to the land in the shadow of a lone mountain. They possess a few remnants of civilization: some books, a pane of glass, a set of flint and steel, a comb. The father teaches the girl how to fish and hunt, the secrets of the seasons and the stars. He is preparing her for an adulthood in harmony with nature, for they are the last of humankind. But when the girl finds herself alone in an unknown landscape, it is a bear that will lead her back home through a vast wilderness that offers the greatest lessons of all, if she can only learn to listen.

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Great book, splendid narration. I would like to listen to it a second time with a pen and paper to take some notes on the different people, relations, timeline and accomplishments. It is like a history book filled with facts and tells the story of our efforts to understand the world in which we live in, with humor and some philosophical hints. Some sections felt like they were dragging on forever, but overall I enjoyed it and I'm glad I listened to the entire book.
