Story
She's been six different people in six different places: Madeline in Ohio, Isabelle in Missouri, Olivia in Kentucky . . . But now that she's been transplanted to rural Louisiana, she has decided that this fake identity will be her last. Witness Protection has taken nearly everything from her. But for now, they've given her a new name, Megan Rose Jones, and a horrible hair color. For the past eight months, Meg has begged her father to answer one question: What on earth did he do—or see—that landed them in this god-awful mess?

Narrator voice is hard to listen to.

The story was a decent listen but it was so hard to get past the narration. The main character voice came off as whiny the entire duration of the book. It did not fit the character in my opinion.

Had me researching a trip to the Hotel Nantucket!

Fun, easy read. Loved the narration. The description and the food and ambiance left me wanting more. I was hesitant about the ghost and almost stopped when the character was introduced. However by the end of the book I felt differently and didn’t mind Grace being there :)

Story
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

Extremely Unlikeable Main Character
Reviewed: 09-27-24
The main character is so unlikeable - I never found myself rooting for her. The book feels like an endless book review with no real point. I wanted to like it but it just didn’t. The plot was unique and it was informative as to how publishing works. I couldn’t get past how unlikeable these characters were. I do feel terrible leaving a negative review after reading a book about how negative reviews can deeply affect the author.
