Story
It’s become common to tell kids that they’re going to die from climate change. We are constantly bombarded by doomsday headlines that tell us the soil won’t be able to support crops, fish will vanish from our oceans, and that we should reconsider having children.

well organized and informative

I appreciated how clear and concise the author was and how relatable she was. I almost didn't buy this because it was read by the author and I often find that a professional reader is considerably easier to understand, but she was an excellent reader.

Story
Clay's life has reached a standstill. Recently divorced, he spends his days drifting from his drab apartment to his equally lackluster job as an editor for a small Boston press and back again. His dreary routine has left him mired in a seemingly meaningless existence, until the night he meets Lucian - a demon - and everything changes. With the simple words, "I'm going to tell you my story, and you're going to write it down and publish it", Lucian catapults Clay's mundane life into turmoil.

well written and seductive proselytizing.

the story was well written if at times condescending. My issue with it is that the message was basically "worship God or go to hell," and it didn't have a particularly original or insightful take on that message or the Bible stories it told throughout the book.

This is the second in a series and if you haven't read the first, you will be lost. There is a lot going on in this book. Characters, tech, politics, space etc to think about. Very enjoyable.

Short, obvious, and read by a robot
Reviewed: 07-09-19
I don't remember getting this at all, but I assume I thought it would be a quick pick me up and get me moving. It did not. It is a robot reading a list of "helpful hints" of the type you might find in a magazine or e-article that anyone who stopped to think for a minute would already know. One example was, "listen to upbeat music." I mean, sure, listening to a robot read a list will definitely motivate you to do almost anything else, but if you are older than 14, I feel like you can probably do better.

Why were Prometheus and Loki envisioned as chained to rocks? What was the Golden Calf? Why are mirrors believed to carry bad luck? How could anyone think that mortals like Perseus, Beowulf, and St. George actually fought dragons, since dragons don't exist? Strange though they sound, however, these "myths" did not begin as fiction.

So much food for thought

This was a very interesting take on the topic of oral vs. written histories, how they are made, how they differ and how the method of transmission affects the way myths are created and evolve over time. There is so much here for discussion-- I recommend it for a non-fiction book club or intellectual study group.

Story
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.

great overview of Medieval English history
Reviewed: 06-25-19
This course covers a lot of ground in a short time. The presenter did a great job of summarizing a basic timeline of English history and this course could be useful for a student who needs to get a quick foundation or for someone who has been out of school a while and needs a refresher.
