Story
Henry Wong and the United Planets Alliance Expeditionary Fleet have broken open the blockade their enemies forged around their allies, the Terzan. Now, thanks to that restored alliance, they know the truth of their enemy: a genocidal war machine determined to destroy not only its creators but every other organic sentient it can find. New tools allow Henry and his partner, Ambassador Sylvia Todorovich, to call on old alliances as they rush to save their other enemies from annihilation at the hands of the Liberated Intelligence.

Great book. The ending isn't set up for a sequel, but I would love one to see how the 3 musketeers help move Earth forward with help from Sheldon and reparations.

Story
Albert Jenkins and his friends have enjoyed several months of peace, which is why when a Rosengul spaceship crash-lands into his new house, he's not exactly surprised. From the wreckage, a pair of ordinarily reclusive small Rosengul emerge and spin a tale of kidnapping and deceit. Of course, AJ, not always the most sensitive, asks the pertinent question of how that involves him and his friends. The simple answer is that AJ and crew have developed a reputation of getting things done, probably because his methods skirt Galactic Empire rules.

It's a really fun series to listen too, but I wish there was a little more diversity. They're exploring alien species and all the species apparently practice single male-female relationships. Scifi is the genre to explore diverse relationships and societies, but in this series there haven't been any same sex, polyamorous, group marriages...etc. I would like some queer representation in humans too, but usually aliens in sci-fi books have a larger spectrum of relationship concepts.

I love how light hearted this series is. Really fun to listen too. I wish there was a little more diversity in the characters. Racially, culturally sexual orientation...etc. it would be nice if there was some discussion about using the new technology to help solve some of Earth's problems. Perhaps in future books.

fantastic writing and narration, one pet peeve
Reviewed: 02-08-22
There are few truly well written books in this genre, but this is one of them.
The only thing a little annoying to me is when fantasy books bring up condoms. I don't want to be reminded of what the real world requires when I'm in fantasy land.
Besides that, though, excellent!

Quintus Furius Varus is one of the best lanistas in Rome. Tall and strong in build, fearsome in manner, and sharp of wit, he trains the best gladiators bound for the arenas of Rome. When Senator Servius Augendus seeks personal guards, he attends the Ludus Varus for purchase of the very best. He puts to Quintus an offer he cannot refuse, and Quintus finds himself in Neapolis, contracted as a trainer of guards instead of gladiators. Now what am I supposed to do with my life?
Reviewed: 01-11-20
85 hours and 6 minutes may seem like a gargantuan undertaking, but I would give anything for another 100 hours.
I love this series because I wasn't constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for the next thing to happen. There was plenty of that, but a lot of story tellers all too often supply only adrenaline, heart stopping action without any depth or substance. J. S. Morin filled in the gaps with all the details I wish other writers included in their work. And Mikael Naramore added additional depth and character with his voice acting. All too often voice actors are just drones repeating what other people have written without adding anything positive. Mikael did a superb job giving the story extra color and quality!

I can't wait for the next book. Scalzi is a literary genius. His writing is always engaging and he does a great job creating "scientific" concepts without sounding dumb to the scientifically inclined nor goes over board with scientific jargon.
