Story
When Toby's mother, Amandine, appears on her doorstep with a demand for help, refusing her seems like the right thing to do...until Amandine starts taking hostages, and everything changes. Now, Toby doesn't have a choice about whether or not she does as her mother asks. Not with Jazz and Tybalt's lives hanging in the balance. But who could possibly help her find a pureblood she's never met, one who's been missing for over 100 years?

Endless series of delightful urban fantasy

Each October Daye adventure is better than the one before. I always look forward to the new books, and I reread and relisten to them frequently. Many series become more formula and less originality, but Seanan McGuire does a great job of keeping the stories fresh and interesting, and always leaves me looking forward to the next book. Robinette Kowal does an excellent job with the narration and performance of the characters and the tone of the stories.

Story
In the aftermath of Amandine's latest betrayal, October "Toby" Daye's fragile self-made family is on the verge of coming apart at the seams. Jazz can't sleep, Sylvester doesn't want to see her, and worst of all, Tybalt has withdrawn from her entirely, retreating into the Court of Cats as he tries to recover from his abduction. Toby is floundering, unable to help the people she loves most heal. She needs a distraction. She needs a quest. What she doesn't need is the abduction of her estranged human daughter, Gillian.

another excellent October Daye Adventure

This may be my favorite one yet; fast paced, twists, turns, and, hopefully, foreshadowing of more great adventures to come. The author paints an story, and the narrator/performer is excellent at portraying the characters and the story lines

Story
The Vigil, a group devoted to concealing the paranormal from humanity, has decided Cal has stepped out of the shadows once too often, and death is the only sentence. They plan to send a supernatural assassin into the past to take down the younger, less lethal Cal. But things change when The Vigil makes one last attempt on Caliban's life in the present - and end up destroying everyone and everything he cares about.

I love all of Rob Thurman's books, but my favorite are the Cal Leandros books, and this one is the best yet! I have already read and re-read it several times and listened to it on Audible at least 3 times, as well. Cal back in time with his younger self and, currently younger than him, big brother, Niko brings in more depth and emotion to all of the characters. The irony of Cal being the one in the teacher/mentor/responsible person role is well delivered. The ending was a great cliffhanger that has me holding on by my barely there fingernails as I wait most impatiently for the next book and the continuation of the story.
