Disjointed Horror Tale

Any additional comments?
The majority of the story seems to be concerned with just describing minutae (like how much a character likes coffee and then describing how it's made several times, for example) than explaining the situation with the spiders and attempting to generate some suspense. For long periods of time, you even forget that there are spiders. It comes across as somewhat disjointed.

Story
Everything is going great until a bizarre snake attack sends everybody in the zoo running for cover. It isn't long before Joe realizes that there is a lot more going on than a simple snake attack. And if the hungry lions, roaring gorillas and charging elephants now free from their cages have anything to say about it, there is more bloodshed to come. All of the world's animals are attacking, and no one knows why. What they do know is that man is now on the bottom of the food chain.

Interesting concept - Handled in a most boring way

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Fans of English drawing room comedies
Would you recommend Animal Kingdom: An Apocalyptic Novel to your friends? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book to anyone. Based on the cover art, anyone expecting what is portrayed on it would be disappointed.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Animal Kingdom: An Apocalyptic Novel?
Perhaps expanding the story from the people trapped in the building to more of the situation outside. There was so much time spent on how the rather boring, cardboardy-character people interact and how to be nice to each other that it truly detracted from a potentially exciting and amazing story.
Any additional comments?
The story should be a bit more interesting, but seems to focus more on how to be polite to each other in an emergency and not call people names. The animals going berserk and slaughtering all the people bit seems to be handled as only an afterthought.

Story
It starts in a laboratory. A man-made strain of flesh-eating virus. Created by a power-hungry cartel. Capable of turning victims into brain-dead carnivores. Smuggled aboard a cruise ship that's about to set sail . . .One by one, the passengers are exposed. A U.S. senator. A young couple. An undercover agent. A beautiful assassin. Some will be infected. Others will survive. But no one will be spared if the outbreak isn't contained and the dead outnumber the living.

What made the experience of listening to The Savage Dead the most enjoyable?
compelling story, though somewhat cardboard, not-very-well-fleshed-out characters. once onboard the ship, though, things really take off
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Savage Dead?
imagining the mall onboard a state-of-the-art cruise ship flooded with hungry zombies makes you stop and think for a second. yikes.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
i did. work was very boring that day.
Any additional comments?
the ending felt somewhat rushed, and not wrapped up terribly well. i know i was left with questions.
