Story
Psychologist and criminologist Dr. Gretchen White is a specialist in antisocial personality disorders and violent crimes. Shaughnessy still thinks Gretchen got away with murder. It’s not going to happen again.

Unappealing characters
Reviewed: 05-18-25
The characters were largely unappealing, in particular Gretchen. Slow moving and repetitive. Could have wrapped up the story in half the length.

Story
Attorney Nate Shepherd’s newest client stands accused of a fatal hit and run. While Nate doesn’t believe that the CEO of Carrefour’s largest charity would ever smash into a person and flee the scene, a blood-streaked van says otherwise. A freewheeling prosecutor is certain that Nate’s client did it, and more, that the killing wasn’t an accident at all. With help from old friends and an intriguing new one, Nate uncovers incriminating acts, secret relationships, and a massive motive that has him scrambling for answers.

Top notch narration and unexpected ending
Reviewed: 04-06-23
George Newbern is one of the best narrators I have heard. He brings the personalities of the characters alive. And they don’t all sound alike.
Not highly suspenseful, but there were unexpected twists and turns. Did not see the ending coming.

Kate Shugak may be the only person who can find out. But for the fact that Kate, too, is among the missing....
