Good but not great

Love podcasts that play music clips.

The story writes itself.Stevie is an undeniable legend and even hard rock/ heavy metal lovers like me can't deny great music of other genres.Motown is timeless as is Stevie.
Only reason not all 5 across the boards is the virtue signalling white guilt liberal preaching.Everyone knows what went on back then and it has to be mentioned but these snowflakes always overdo it unfortunately.

Story
Today, yacht rock is one of the most celebrated "yesteryear" styles of pop music, and has resonated with a new generation of musicians. But despite all the hoopla, there has never been a book that told the entire story of the genre. Until now. Featuring interviews with many of the heavy hitters of the genre, including John Oates, Kenny Loggins, and Don Felder, The Yacht Rock Book leaves no sail unturned. This is the definitive story of the yacht rock’s creation, rise, chart-smashing success, fall, and stunning rebirth.

Story
It was long ago, but not as long as it seems: The Berlin Wall fell and the Twin Towers collapsed. In between, one presidential election was allegedly decided by Ross Perot while another was plausibly decided by Ralph Nader. Landlines fell to cell phones, the internet exploded, and pop culture accelerated without the aid of technology that remembered everything. It was the last era with a real mainstream to either identify with or oppose. The ’90s brought about a revolution in the human condition, and a shift in consciousness, that we’re still struggling to understand.

After reading 'Glory Days' about the US during the Summer of '84,I was excited about this.Thinking it would be similar in looking back and it is somewhat.I am vaguely familiar with the author a funny, witty guy so I was sold.
When at the beginning of the book he introduces himself as a straight white cis male I knew what was coming.Unnecessary virtue signling thats adds nothing to the story.I did enjoy the story and how he tells it other than that.Full star below Glory Days

Story
History in Five Songs with Martin Popoff is the show that aims to make grand and often oddball hard rock and heavy metal points through a narrative built upon the tiny idea of a quintet of songs. Buttressed with illustrative clips, Martin argues quickly and succinctly why these songs - and the specific sections of these tracks - support his mad professor premise, from the wobbly invention of an “American” heavy metal, to the influence of Led Zeppelin in hair metal or to more succinct topics like tapping and twin leads. The songs serve as bricks, but Martin slathers plenty of mortar. At the...
